starbug Posted November 18, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2005 Hi, When we were on the QE2, we really enjoyed Capt. Nick Bates's announcements. Most of them ended with a quote by Patrick O'Shaughnessy (don't know if I spelt his name right). Does anyone know where you can get all of Patrick's quotes? Thanks. Rare Colin_Cameron Posted November 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2005 Hi, Don't recognise the name but I suspect you might find them in Nick's own book which contains lots of his little stories. If I could find it I'd tell you the title. Anyone else know it? Regards, Colin.
guernseyguy Posted November 18, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2005 If I could find it I'd tell you the title. Anyone else know it? 'Captain Nick's Book of Naughtical Trivia', 2nd Ed, 2003, Craighall Press, Edinburgh. A quick skim through does not show any quotations from Patrick O'Shaunessy - could it have been 'Arthur' - 'We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams'? : http://www.giga-usa.com/gigaweb1/quotes2/quautoshaughnessyarthurwx001.htm Peter
starbug Posted November 18, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted November 18, 2005 Hi Colin and guernseyguy, Thanks for your replies. I have Nick's book, which is where some of his trivia came from, I'm glad I bought when I did because it had sold out by the end of the cruise! I've taken a look at Arthur O'Shaughnessy's poem and that's not what I'm looking for. One of Patrick O'Shaughnessy's phrases was "If you lend a friend £20 and you never see him again, it was probably worth it" I can't remember any more of them, which is why I'd like to find them. Thanks again.
guernseyguy Posted November 18, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2005 One of Patrick O'Shaughnessy's phrases was "If you lend a friend £20 and you never see him again, it was probably worth it" Starbug, If you Google that phrase you'll come up with lots of sources, none of them apparently linked to a Patrick O'Shaunessy - perhaps he's been copied without credit....you can see plenty more in a similar vein here: http://www.successunlimited.co.uk/inspire/inspire2.htm Peter
starbug Posted November 18, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted November 18, 2005 Hi Peter, Thanks for this, these are the kind of things I was looking for. Another of Patrick's that I recognise was "Never test the depth of the water with both feet". Thanks again, Richard.
Navaleye Posted November 20, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 20, 2005 Another useful ditty was to "Naver take a laxative and a sleeping pill on the same night" :):confused:
