Jewel of the Seas: ALMOST 5 star, BUT...

..It's difficult to give it a full 5 for only one reason:

During my Nov 1 Repo cruise (incredible in every other way)...the Jewel had

a problem that I experienced on the Splendour; but not on the Rhapsody:

an incessant URINE smell in many of the public men's bathrooms. This was

not because of a lack of maintenance; they were usually sparkling and

wiped down, but near the urinals; no matter how clean, that terrible pungent

odor imminated. Apparently a plumbing type problem, but it really should

be addressed. On a ship this new and so upscale in design I was suprised

to encounter this.

Any one else notice this? This is why I give the otherwise

awesome Jewel of the Seas a 4 1/2 out of 5. Really a great ship..and a

fuller review is coming.

I can't wait to hear the rest of your review. We've only been on Voyager class ships and we have the Jewel booked for our next vacation. Since I'm a girl at least I won't have to smell the stinky men's room! That smell would really gross me out :)

On another thread, a poster mentioned overhearing a crew member muttering about all of the things that passengers flush down the toilets, even though EVERY SINGLE TOILET LID has a notice on it or behind it stating that you are to put NOTHING in there (except your bodily waste and TP :D)

(if you have read the actual post, this is NOT how the crew member phrased things :D :D)

I think that NO plumbing system can keep up this kind of usage and remain clean when passengers insist on mucking it up.

JMO............YMMV.

..I never thought of the Corona angle..hmmmmmmmmm.

Alanna; I am ashamed to say, I did NOT hand in the comment card; was

very rushed and didn't take time. My bad. I will say that RCI might take a

cue from Carnival. To ensure a high return rate of comment cards, the last

morning of the cruise the CCL CD draws a card and that person wins 100 dollars.

..back to the foul smell issue. I don't accept that "all ships have that problem". I have cruised 15 times, 14 different ships and only the Splendour and JOS had it, at least while I was on them. The Splendour, I just assumed

it was from an aging pipe system (the last morning, many of the public toilets

overflowed; it was not pretty); but on an 18 month old ship of such advanced

design?

I don't mean to belabor the point. I would sail JOS again, even if I knew it

still had the problem; the myriad merits of this wonderful vessel make this a

minor issue, though a suprising one.

Every Ladies Room was very clean with no odors--except off the Schooner Bar. I would have preferred the Schooner Bar located at either the rear or forward of the ship to avoid all the smoke everytime I had to walk thru to to go Portofinos, Chops or the Safari Lounge for Kareoke or Quest..
