Shore excursions

Is there any advantage in pre booking shore excursions rather then waiting and doing it whilst onboard. Sailing Mediterranean on the sinfonia

If you wait until on board, it is possible some could become sold out. I would really like to book private ones though because many times they are half the price or even cheaper than that.

The only one I was planning on booking through the ship was in Santorini as I've read it's crazy busy and with only having 6hrs there we figured we'd be given priority with getting on/off and we didn't want to loose precious time. I'll look into pre booking thanks
