Don't Rent A Car

A friend of hubby's who has stayed on Tortola several times at Long Bay Resort "recommended" that we rent a car rather than taking a taxi -- hubby has experience driving on the islands -- St. Martin several times, Grand Cayman twice & St. Thomas which drive on left side of road!!! GIGANTIC MISTAKE!! The roads are a nightmare of switchbacks & potholes with cattle, goats, chickens on road, plus meeting cement truck, block truck, dirt truck, tanker truck!! Car was from Hertz & it was in awful condition; also a 4 spd manual -- additionally a nightmare!! We could have gone there in a cab & enjoyed our stay!!!! Once we got there Mike could not relax dreading the drive back to Roadtown. (We were there Nov 10 on Westerdam.)

Originally planned to go on daysail with Kuralu but cancelled to do the car bit -- however, the BVI official who was to clear our ship was 1.5 hr late arriving so we could not get off til nearly 10 AM, so even if we had kept that reservationl, we'd never made it to his dock!!!

By the way, my Cingular cell phone worked on Tortola & I was not charged!!! Had to call Hertz cause the gal running the office at pier closed up by time we arrived to turn the car back in & we had to wait nearly an hour to turn in the car!!!
