Bergen cable car

Good evening shipmates:cool: I'm off to Norway again at the end of the month and I'm quite fancying doing the cable car in Bergen. Has anybody done it independently? Is it walkable from the port areas? Further than the funicular and general waterfront areas? Some friends have booked a ships trip but I would prefer to do it at my leisure. Any hints and tips greatly appreciated :)

hi cappers, me and my other half did the cable car in bergen rather than the funicular. its not really walkable from port but we got on a local bus from town which heads out towards the hospital (just ask a local) the bus driver told us where to get off. its not far and not expensive. a short walk up a hill gets you to the station for the cable car. pay through a machine or by kiosk. its a cracking ride up and a great view. much better than fighting the crowds at the funicular. enjoy
