We stayed at the Marriott San Juan Resort in late October and thought it was very nice. We had a partial ocean and full city view, we had a corner room on the 10th floor. The bed was very comfy, it felt like we were sleeping on a feather bed and it was very quiet. The night we arrived it was raining and we were a little tired from the red eye flight we took, so we ate in there restuarant and went to our room. There is a casino which we made a donation in and a large bar area in the hotel lobby where they were setting up a band for the Friday evening. The next morning when we woke up the weather was beautiful. A buffet breakfast was included with the rate we paid ($124) and it was very good. The pool area was nice and not crowded in the AM, you do have access to the beach and there was a red flag posted which indicated rough tides.

I would recommend checking out at around 11am, we waited until about 11:30 and the lines were getting long. You had many people trying to check in and all of the people staying there for the cruises checking out.

Hope this helps, I think this is a very nice hotel for the money. There is also a resort fee that is added onto the final bill.

The Marriot Resort is in the Condado area. We got this place for $100 for our pre and post cruise nights. I'm looking forward to the pool and beds.

Love2cruiseseattle, Do you remember what the resort fee was? I was told 10% of the price paid for the room. Did you use Priceline too? Do you remember how much the taxi was to the pier?

Thanks!

The hotel is located about a 10-15 minute cab ride to the piers. It cost us $16 from the hotel to Old San Juan, we had 5 pieces of luggage. When we got off of the ship the cab fair for 4 of us with 9 pieces of luggage was $25.50.

I have read that there is a bus that will take you to Old San Juan for under $2.00 and it runs about a block from the hotel, we were going to take it, but it started to rain very hard the day we arrived so we just stayed around the room and rested.

According to the Marriott, the resort fee is 10% of your room rate. Our room rate was $129 which included a continental breakfast, I think the total at check out was about $150. We stayed there in late October and I made the reservation through my TA in January, at check in the lady said we had a great rate because the rooms at that time were going for $189 without breakfast. I strongly suggest making your reservation early also because many of the ships use that hotel for pre and post stays. When we were leaving there was a very large truck with hundreds pieces of luggage stacked in, that is another reason to check out before noon, so you can get to the pier before the buses arrive.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

We also won our room at the Marriott from Priceline. Does anyone know if the 10% resort fee is figured from the rate we received from Priceline, which is $100, or figured from the nondiscounted rate, which is about $295?

This resort hotel also has a day pass available for those who have a late flight leaving PR. I can't remember the price (it was reasonable). It included storage of your luggage, towels, use of pool and exercise equipment, all the hotel amenities. There is a nice swin up pool bar, with food. It's not cheap, but what the heck, it's your last vacation day. Not a bad idea when you have to wait hours for your flight. The cab's each way, were not bad. And it was like a mini vacation, just after our cruise, and before going back to the world!

Marriott folks:

Did you get your room by naming your own price and taking your chances, or did Marriott come up in the shopping area.

I'll be there 3/25-28. I've stayed in San Juan once and, to be honest, the two-stars were not kept up and the three stars are pricey in high season (including March).

So, as others have said ... any help is appreciated (glipford@cox.net). Otherwise, we'll probably be back at the Canario.

Does anyone have any experience staying at this hotel? If so, how was it? Good/ Bad? Easy access to Old San Juan? Shuttle service from the Airport? Anything else that might be worth sharing... Thanks.

We stayed at the Marriott in late October and it is a very nice hotel, our experience was great and we would stay again when visiting San Juan. We did not find any hotel in San Juan that offers shuttle service to and from the airport, we caught a taxi. There is a bus outside of the Marriott that you can catch to Old San Juan, it is not within walking distance.

I got the Marriott at $100 for January 27 by 'Naming our own price' at Priceline. I selected the San Juan area, then resort, then put in $100, and got it on the first try.

My final bill broke down as:

Room $129.00

Room Tax $10.89

Resort Fee $9.90

So I am not sure how they figure the 10%???

I stay in San Juan 1-2 times per month. I usually stay either at this Marriott or the Ritz Carlton in Isla Verde.

One hotel that I HIGHLY recommend for a pre- or post-cruise hotel is the El Convento. If you search this section of this Board, you will see several posts there I have made about this absolutely wonderful hotel. There are several kinds of rates, and they even have "special" rates for cruisers. The hotel is in Old San Juan and is in a PERFECT location to enjoy the city, and very close to the docked ships. It can be pricey, but a rate comperable to the rate at the Marriott can be found if you call ahead. The Marriott is currently undergoing renovations, and as of November 15, didn't have the new bedding yet that is the best I have slept on. But, not yet installed at this Marriott.

We got 2 rooms for 2 nights pre-cruise at Marriott Resort on Priceline for $100.00 per room per night for our Empress of the Seas cruise March 13. The resort fee is charged on our $100.00 price we got the room for not on the regular rate the rooms are going for.
