AmberTeka Posted June 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2017 If anyone has any questions re: Magic, ask away and I'll try to get the answers. On board for 15 days. 1. We like Trivia a lot. did they have "Super Trivia"? The one that goes on until the Last Sea Day? We have not been on Carnival since 2015. Have been on Princess. HAL. Happy to be back with Carnival. 2. Did you do anytime dining? Does it work smoothly? Should we beg for an Assigned Dining Time? 3. What were the Shows? 4. Did you donate to the Casino? How tight was it? THANK you for taking your time to do this for those of us who will be sailing in a few weeks or months.
fozzy1975 Posted June 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Did you have Bitter and Blanc? How was the chair hog situation? Did you go to the comedy club? I heard something about them giving out tickets? Thanks!!
Umbrae Noctem Posted June 20, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Subscribed, I'm sure I'll think of some questions. Other than this one. What ports did you go to?
tlw440 Posted June 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 20, 2017 No questions. I hope you enjoy your cruise on the Magic as much as we did, we sailed on 5/13-5/21. Great ship with a great crew.

reerun25 Posted June 20, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Got a year before we sail, but following! Did you try the Pig & Anchor on sea days? Was the Sea Dogs open on sea days?
Seago2 Posted June 20, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Yes they had super trivia. Our first tablemates, two others in a four top, talked about the US election (!!) and so we switched to any time, which was supposedly full. Zero wait for a table at 5:45. There is a country show tonight; I have not been to any shows yet. My son used the slot machines and made two bucks 🤣. We missed the MDR last night and they may have had bitter and blanc. I have not seen it and it's not on the Hub App menu for tonight. Formal night did not have creme brûlée, which was on the Hub App. Plenty of loungers, just have to be willing to get away from the pool. Did not go to the comedy show yet. Ports on this cruise: Amber Cove (did the Big 3 shore excursion, zip lines, obstacle course beach: liked it a lot). Today is St. Thomas, taking a taxi to the beach. Tomorrow is San Juan, walking to the Old Fort, on the next cruise we are doing an ATV excursion. Day after that is Grand Turk, doing a catamaran and snorkel excursion. The ship is really big. At times it feels crowded. Haven't had a chance to get to know any crew members. But it's a lot less crowded than I thought it would be. Still love Glory best. Line for Pig and Anchor so I skipped it. Just realized there even was a Sea Dogs about an hour ago. No idea re: anything about it yet. I think thats it. We are on for 15 days so ask away. I tend to go to bed after dinner and read but my son is out and about all night. I am up at 5:55 waiting for the coffee, lol. By the way, the coffee is really good this trip. Food is the same as always and always hot enough.
seafoy Posted June 20, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 20, 2017 I have a beverage question for you. I'm contemplating getting the beverage package as it includes a bunch of non alcoholic options as well, however after extensive research I am unable to find if any of the vitamin waters, Powerade, or tea come in sugar free options. I did notice the rockstar energy drink in sugar free, but not interested in that. If my only diet options are soda and water, I may have to re-think package value for me. Also, do they offer drip coffee in the coffee shop? From the menus I have seen, it only appears to be sugar bomb lattes and frappes. Thanks so much for any info! I've had non fat lattes from there, they are the same as Starbucks: no sugar. I will find out about the Powerades etc.
mousefan73 Posted June 20, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Which bach did you cab to in st. Thomas and was it easy getting a cab? and also getting one back. We have never cruised and am nervous about going on our own and getting stuck, not able to get back. We have 6pm MDR times right now, but feel that is too early.. What time are the stage shows? we are not into comedy but singing and dancing we can watch. Depending on shows etc.. we might try to switch to 8:15 or anytime.. concrete question do you noticed pools and other deck acitivites die down around 6pm? Another reason we might give up that dining slot, is if many are eating it frees up space for us to swim and slide. thanks! ps do the lights really look like eyes in the atrium?? Not my call, but If was new to cruising, I would go to the Shore Deck and book one with Carnival. One that will not leave me behind if there is an Issue. Talk to other cruisers. Find out the private groups they trust. This message boards and REVIEWS list a lot of private tour guides used by lots of people. Proof of reliability. We have never booked an excursion with anyone but the Ship. We were in Costa Rica when riots broke out. It was over Free Trade. the President was Not Free Trade. the city of Limon, where Ship was ported liked Free Trade. Passions ran hot. The President came to make a speech. Costa Rica does not have an army. Their Police serves as both. Demonstrations broke out and Roads were blocked. We had toured a garden started by a USA EX Pat and then given to Costa Rica. Very good tour. We headed back for the bus. People were excited, but the bus got through. Other Buses did not. Carnival waited for ever bus to come in......every banana Boat. My husband and I sat on our balcony and watched it. Made a Believer out of me. And it was not violent. Some blows were exchanged but Police there is pretty not taking any nonsense. they kept it cool until the President got through talking and left. Crowds dispersed. The Roads were open. It got a little hot on that bus we were on............but all ended well. Costa Rica is a lovely, lovely nation. Good, sweet people who have political differences like we do, I think. And get too mad.
Rare Ottawa_Cruiser Posted June 20, 2017 #16 Share Posted June 20, 2017 Have a great trip! We sail the Magic August 5th and I'm beyond excited to try Carnival. Have only sailed with Princess so far.
BossOfTheHouse Posted June 20, 2017 #17 Share Posted June 20, 2017 We sail in 24 days! Does Carnival provide the service in which they check you into your return flight home and handle your luggage, including checking the bags at the airport? Disney has always offered this service and I was pleasantly surprised to see Royal offer it last year.
h0mbr3 Posted June 20, 2017 #18 Share Posted June 20, 2017 We are on the Magic next month and my wife loves champagne. We will have the cheers package. Is there anyway you can see what kind of champagne is available? Thanks!
Seago2 Posted June 20, 2017 Author #19 Share Posted June 20, 2017 I'll find out about the champagne. In the atrium, and going up the decks, are lights that look like bloodshot eyes or breasts, depending on how you look at them. I have never in my life booked a ship based excursion until this trip and I've got 26 cruises under my belt. There's absolutely no reason to book a ship based excursion, don't believe the fear mongering. Even in Belize and Cartagena I used private companies. Many many times we just walk around. This time I had a lot of time to plan things and it was just so easy to click away until I had suddenly booked three carnival excursions. Yesterday's was pretty packed. I don't know about the luggage service, we are walking off our luggage. Yes the pool dies down around six but things start up again after early dining, especially the basketball courts and hot tubs. Please check the cabin TV and see if you can order room service from it without having to use the telephone. AmberTeka Posted June 20, 2017 #25 Share Posted June 20, 2017 You could perhaps post some of the groups you have found reliable. I think Victor Boden is sort of famous. He seems to be all over the Caribbean. The Holland America Group that was on an independent tour, and the vehicle they were in that went off of a mountain, and killed them all . If I remember they were a group from New Jersey? And I agree with you. No sense in scare mongering. Cruisers go on independent tours all the time. None of them have been harmed. I did see people left behind who did not make it back in time. One on the dock as ship was pulling out. She was crying. He was mad. One whose family was distraught. heard about that on the ship. did not see it. For all the cruises we have taken.......that is not so bad. I did not mean to offend anyone. Just my opinion. First time we cruised.........we were totally in the dark. but that was 1976 on the NCL Sunward. We liked it so we came back and went on the NCL Starward. Still at it..................Enjoyed every cruise we took. Enjoyed every excursion we took. We have been very fortunate.
