Seattle free luggage program

We have used "luggage direct" many times, usually at a cost of $25 per bag. We were surprised and pleased that when our Alaskan cruise ended in Seattle, it was at no charge. It may or may not be related to the port, but the service is great. You don't see your bags until you arrive at your home airport. It works whether or not you have a transfer purchased from HAL. In our June experience in Seattle, they did want us to get off relatively early, but it was around 8:30 or so before our group was called. In terms of immigration, it was a "welcome home" and a waive through.

We used Port Valet on our Alaska cruise July1-8, 2017. It is different from self disembarkation, so that may be where the confusion lies. You leave your bags outside your room by midnight and the next time you see them is at your returning flight luggage claim. We also purchased transfer service from ship to airport. We were given a time frame ( ours was between 8-8:30) to disembark. Once outside the terminal, there are rows of buses and we boarded in no particular color order except all buses were going to Seattle airport. It was open boarding, meaningyouget on a line, hand in your ticket and go to a bus with an open seat. We could have waited longer to disembark if we chose to since there were no real assigned seats to a certain bus leaving at a specific time. So if you took a cab to airport, there would be no difference. Very easy, but be prepared to walk from the drop off point at airport to your terminal. It is not door to door service.
