mark316 Posted July 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2017 Have FTTF for my upcoming cruise. I have had it before but never needed for tendering. When using it at HMC, do I go to GS or will they send me some place else? I know the stairways get busy when it time to go. Also, does anyone know the current charges for the clam shells? With getting to the beach early enough, I know we will be able to get a good location. I'm also assuming that with a clam shell they will put me in a back row of chairs so not to block anyone's view. Thanks everyone...

Thanks everyone... I sailed with Holland America last April to HMC and I would definitely say the clamshells aren't worth it. I'm not sure if you can move them, but I saw all of them in the very back under the trees the whole day. Don't see the point when there are chairs sitting under the trees providing free shade. If you want to buy them for a little more privacy, maybe worth it. My grandmother has a medication that causes her to be extremely sensitive to the sun and she sat fine in the back under the trees. There is no "bad location" just like the person above said. It's a gorgeous beach.
cccer Posted July 2, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2017 For FTTF, you should go to guest services and they will escort you to the front of the line. At least this was how it was on the Vista and Inspiration. I am not sure on other ships, I believe they send a letter to your cabin with the FTTF information. teknoge3k Posted July 2, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 2, 2017 If you can get a cabana and they're not sold out, I HIGHLY recommend that.
mark316 Posted July 2, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted July 2, 2017 Was going to get a cabana but the wife didn't want to spend the extra $$. They are sold out now.
tandemcruzr Posted July 2, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 2, 2017 We sailed on the Elation this past March to surprise friends who were turning Diamond. I checked for Cabanas right up until we left for the port and they were "Sold Out." On a whim, once on board I stopped by the Excursion Desk and asked about Cabanas and was told they had 3 available. Wow. We booked one. :D We met in the designated place for the tender to HMC and while sitting there all packed and ready to go, an announcement was made that 'due to weather' there would be no stop at HMC. :( So, might be worth a visit to the Excursion Desk once you are on board. This has been our experience in the past. If you have an excursion booked, they will leave a slip in your room telling you where to go & what time to be there. Otherwise, you go to GS desk and they will have someone escort you down. However, hopefully you aren't on the Sunshine. Priority tender is "optional" according to the ship crew and they didn't offer it when we tendered. We had to get in line like everyone else. Ocean Dancer Posted July 6, 2017 #12 Share Posted July 6, 2017 If you are Platinum, do you go to GS to be escorted?
Pellaz Posted July 6, 2017 #13 Share Posted July 6, 2017 Does anyone have the current clamshell price on HMC? I think $25, maybe $20. Plan on $25 anyway. :) They DO sell out so if you want one, go to the "beach sales" hut as soon as you debark the tender.

I was under the expression that you could have one set up by an employee on the beach.
Pellaz Posted July 10, 2017 #15 Share Posted July 10, 2017 Thank you. I was under the expression that you could have one set up by an employee on the beach. Yep, in fact you HAVE to. The employees are the only ones who have the equipment to set them up for you. But they are limited in number so go to the Activities Hut (or whatever it's called) soon after you arrive. My personal preference is for a cabana (twice) or a 2-story villa (once) or the Private Oasis (once), depending on group size, but a clamshell will provide some protection from the sun. Reportedly they CAN get kinda stuffy inside, though.
