kreastman Posted July 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2017 We will be ending our cruise with an overnight in Rio next January. We are not spending any additional days there. We need to be off the ship by 9 AM, but most flights to the U.S. don't depart until that evening. Has anyone used a service that picked you up at the ship (with your luggage), gave you a tour of Rio highlights and then dropped you at the airport? sitraveler Posted July 22, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2017 We've done it. If you haven't joined your roll call-do. There are several services that meet at the ship, gather the luggage and take the group to several sights before depositing you at the airport. It's a better way than the O offer you will receive on board, typically a long stay at a shopping mall. Use Trip Advisor or google for Rio group transfers. He did a very good job for us on a different Rio tour for Carnival. He has a Miami phone number that forwards to his cell in Brazil and he is responsive and speaks excellent English. I would think that he can arrange what you are looking for. HTH Sent from my SHIELD Tablet K1 using Tapatalk
Mura Posted July 22, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2017 (edited) We used Manu Peclat in December 2013. Actually, we used him for two days. On departure day he picked up 8 of us -- the cost then was $680 or $85pp -- and gave us a day tour of Rio and brought us to the airport at the end of the day. We also used him for a tour on the day we were in port. Edited July 22, 2017 by Mura Correction of Tour Cost
sammiedawg Posted July 23, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Our group booked Letitica Levy for three days and she was great. I would think any tour guide will customize the day for an airport drop off.
Mura Posted July 23, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Agreed! There are plenty of guides available who will be happy to have the day's job. You are probably better off if you can form a small group from your Roll Call rather than just going by yourselves. But if money is no object, then try to go by yourselves. It depends on the size of the car. My experience with these vehicles is that the larger ones have more space for luggage, and of course a larger group brings down the price per person. If you are in a small Mercedes that carries two of you in the back and the driver in the front, probably there isn't enough room for all your luggage (unless you travel very light). If you are in a larger van that can carry 8-10 passengers, then there tends to be plenty of room for everyone's luggage. We certainly had no problem in our van with 8 people and luggage from a 21 day cruise. As an aside, we came home from Lisbon a few weeks ago, traveling with another couple. We hired a service to take us from the hotel to the airport (no city tour this time) which cost about what a cab would have cost for just two of us, and there was tons of room for our luggage.
