sammee Posted August 4, 2017 #26 Share Posted August 4, 2017 If she is,military or you have a retired Military in the family the Air Force base in North Charleston has a campground, there is a KOA in Mt. Pleasant. If there were to pop up something on the island(s) it's going to pricey for sure... I have heard some neighbors considering putting up a room on airbnb or something like that, but for like $400+ a night, 3 nights required. That's the going rate on the island.... Those $150 rooms people paid for the Quality Inn are now considered an ES bargain, lol. Unfortunately nobody in military. They're either going to have to camp it, or Spend the night at her boyfriends parents in VA, and get up early for a 6 hr drive.
Rare momin05 Posted August 5, 2017 #27 Share Posted August 5, 2017 We will be boarding Elation on Jax that day. Not 100 percent but hopefully still good. My parents are in the total eclipse zone and it would have been cool to see, but I booked this cruise way before there was any talk of an eclipse! Oh and John Heald ended up saying there would be events on lido and open decks. That was all he said.
tandemcruzr Posted August 5, 2017 #28 Share Posted August 5, 2017 Here's another interesting approach. https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/edu/learn/project/how-to-make-a-pinhole-camera/ We did this many years ago as kids without the square hole and tin foil. Just 2 pieces of paper and a pin hole in one of them. You can get a similar effect by standing under a tree and looking at the ground. The tree's leaves will create a similar effect. Organized Chaos Posted August 5, 2017 #29 Share Posted August 5, 2017 This is a nice interactive map. Click on your location to see a pop-up of how much of the sun will be covered from that location, when it starts, when it reaches its max, & when it ends. The times are in Universal Time, so you'll have to convert them to your time zone. Universal time is 4 hours ahead of Eastern time. https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/interactive_map/index.html
OCruisers Posted August 5, 2017 #30 Share Posted August 5, 2017 If you're going to be in the path of the eclipse, take some Moon Pies! A "must have" for viewing the eclipse. :D
jewliana Posted August 5, 2017 #31 Share Posted August 5, 2017 We will be in Nassau on the Liberty. I think its about an 80% eclipse there. Hope Carnival might have some of these glasses not finding them in Florida so far.
evandbob Posted August 5, 2017 #32 Share Posted August 5, 2017 I just want to 2nd the idea of getting the proper sunglasses to view this event. Check their ratings carefully. There are plenty of hazards associated with staring at the sun through cheap and inappropriate sunglasses.
