Tahiti precruise hotel and island?

We would love to do a precruise stay in Tahiti. Not sure which hotel and island is better...Papeete or Moorea. We were looking into the Intercontinental hotel on both islands. They both look awsom. We would love to do an over the water room and hope they are air conditioned and are as special as they look. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Der

we just booked three nights precruise at Pension Motu Iti on Moorea. It is next to the Moorea Sheraton.

Moorea is a much nicer place to spend a pre-cruise stay in Tahiti. If there was a choice, that would be the place to go. It is worlds apart from the hustle bustle of Papeete and much prettier with nicer beaches.

Der, I just got back and I thought that the Beachcomber Tahiti was a great hotel. It has beautiful grounds, a great staff and good food. The over the water rooms are nice but the water is not clear enough for snorkeling. I also stayed at the Sheraton Moorea. If you want to stay in a over the water room, this is the place. The OTW rooms are wonderful. The rooms are well air conditioned and really special. The snorkeling just off your room is fantastic and the best in Moorea. We had room 107 which had a beautiful sunset view. I went to see the Moorea Beachcomber and it is also a beautiful hotel but the OTW rooms at the Sheraton are much better.

Its no contest Moorea is the place to go. The sheraton moorea was great. Its not cheap but its worth the stay if you can. You can get to moorea by ferry for about $20 round trip and it takes about 30-40 minutes. The ferry leaves at the docks next to the ship. They do not run late so if you arrive late in the evening you will have to fly or stay in tahiti

have fun jeff

I am like a sponge absorbing all the great info I am getting on these boards. Tahiti is such an unknown for us and knowing as much as you can before you make decisions is so helpful. Thank you.

Help Help Help!!! Going on Tahitian Princess 2/11/05 but flying into Papeete Tahiti on 2/10 and looking for a one nite hotel - clean, decent but not expensive as we have late arrival and won't be taking advantage of any hotel amenities. Have searched the internet and travel books and not finding anything reasonable. Intercontinatal, LeMeridian, Sheraton only but don't want to pay $100 a nite for a room only.

Any suggestinons who to contact or where to stay- we aren't choosy as long as it is clean and safe. Budget place is fine but how would we contact such places. Most Travel Agents want to do packges and many nite stays and at high price places. Know how to contat pension thype places or B&B's if such a thilng in Tahiti

PS: How about sleeping at the airport- how are the seats in waiting areas?

Actually Joe, $100 per night is not a bad price at all in Tahiti, I would grab that up in a heartbeat. Most hotels are much higher than that down there.

We stayed 3 night pre-cruise at the IC Beachcomber Moorea. The check-in is really inefficient, but after that the service was very good. The OWBs are only about 1/3 over water (except for about 3 or 4 of them). There is a nice reef at the end of the OWBs (see if you can find the huge boat anchor chain), but the water isn't as clear as hoped. There was a sediment in it keeping visibility to about 30 feet. Don't bother with the terrible, expensive hotel dial-up Internet connection, but call the Europcar free shuttle to go to the shopping area with broadband Internet cyber cafe a few miles away.

We checked the Moorea Sheraton OWBs and the rack rate is $750/night, but they will give a 35% discount to walk-ins. Not cheap, but not bad for a great FP OWB.
