Giantfan13 Posted February 13, 2018 #26 Share Posted February 13, 2018 we started cruising with NCL some 20 odd years ago and it was the first time we ever had these strange soups--chilled fruit sort of things that tasted so yummy. Myself, I am a soup fiend. I eat soup all the time, and I used to order one hot soup and one cold one, every meal. Time has passed and last month it was our first cruise on NCL in about 10 years and, as people have said, NO CHILLED SOUP in the MDRs. We asked the waiter, who was fairly new, if there were any to be found. He went to headquarters and came back and reported that the chilled soups days have passed. But good news, we are sailing RCI in 10 days and they still have them on the menu every day, so all is not lost. Cheers Len
blitheone Posted February 13, 2018 #27 Share Posted February 13, 2018 Memo to NCL (yes, I know you peruse these boards): There are a great many of us chilled fruit soup fans amongst your loyal NCL cruisers. We're looking forward (hint, hint) to introducing our family of 12 to our delicious tradition when we all sail on the Pearl this spring. Yeah, they're not the only part of the Norwegian Experience that won our hearts, but when we sipped the soup on the first day of our first NCL cruise 11 years ago, it was love at first sup.:hearteyes:
Hermiones parents Posted February 13, 2018 #28 Share Posted February 13, 2018 In December, 2015 we were so excited to have cold fruit soup in the Haven for lunch and dinner. This past December there was none to be found on the Pearl Sent from my iPad using Forums
B+S Posted February 13, 2018 #29 Share Posted February 13, 2018 Just happened to see chilled Strawberry soup one lunchtime in the Garden Cafe on the Dawn last week. That was the only one, never saw any in the MDR.
biker@sea Posted February 13, 2018 #30 Share Posted February 13, 2018 Flame me if you must. I use my Cruise Critic influence. I do ask the head chef @ the C.C. M&G " Will there be chilled fruit soup" usually they just nod and smile. :halo:
Booksnflowers Posted February 15, 2018 #31 Share Posted February 15, 2018 I too have enjoyed these soups in years past. One time I asked a waiter how they made them and he told me they are basically melted ice cream. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Look up some recipes on line. I make a blueberry soup that also has lemon, sugar, regular yogurt, and a good red wine. Definitely not melted ice cream.
newmexicoNita Posted February 15, 2018 #32 Share Posted February 15, 2018 I haven't seem them for a few years on NCL, but am not a fan so haven't really been looking that closely. There was one, many years ago I did love; it was an avocado/watermelon or strawberry one.
jcCruiserNYC Posted February 23, 2018 #33 Share Posted February 23, 2018 Look up some recipes on line. I make a blueberry soup that also has lemon, sugar, regular yogurt, and a good red wine. Definitely not melted ice cream. My interest was piqued, so I looked up some recipes as suggested ... I dunno ... the fruity ones ... how are they different from smoothies?:o
PreciousPetal Posted February 23, 2018 #34 Share Posted February 23, 2018 On the Breakaway this January-snack time (3:30-5) there was a chilled soup in the buffet every day. I would get a large glass, straw from the bar, and add some soft ice cream. Instant smoothie, yum!
DrankDrinkDrunk94 Posted February 23, 2018 #35 Share Posted February 23, 2018 Didn't see them on our BA cruise this past November, and they were certainly missed. I always enjoyed ordering one every night to try! Strawberry was usually my favorite. This year on the Escape I will have to check the buffet around snack time!
