No ship's tours for Barbados & St. Kitts!

We are crusing over New Years and would like suggestions as to what to do in the ports. We have been to all before but are looking for something we haven't done. We do not want ships tours! We are not shoppers or want bus tours. We like to snorkle so sugestions for good snorkling beaches would be good or anything we should not miss. Last month we went cave tubing in Belize and it was fantastic!!! Ships tour was $93 and 30-40 people. We paid $45 and there were 9 of us- all same place, same caves, same time. This is the kind of thing we like. Ports we're not sure of are Barbados, St. Kitts, and maybe Antiqua.

Thanks ahead of time and.........Keep Smiling....................Bonnie J...........

Bonnie, I suggest you post this on the Barbados, St. Kitts, and Antigua boards, too.

I had checked out those boards for months and used their recommendations to book our upcoming cruise excursions.

In Barbados we are going on the Silver Moon for a wonderful day of sailing and snorkeling. http://oceanadventures.bb/sailing.htm

In Antigua we are going on Eli's Eco Tour. http://www.adventureantigua.com/

Have fun figuring out what to do!

9 years ago my hubby surpirsed me with a trip to an all inclusive resort at St Kitts....back 9 years ago it was the only place that had a casino. i am sure it has built up more since then. it is a very very small island.

I suggest getting off the ship and looking for a taxi and tell them you would like to have a tour of the island. Ask to see the fort and the crater of the volcano near tutle beach. turtle beach was beautiful.

one thing that amazed me about the island is how clean the island is. they also do not have unemploymed people. they make jobs for everyone that wants to work.

one thing that was fun to do was to take a horseback riding trip, they say it is thru the rainforest but it only enters the rainforest and then you get off the horse to look around and turn around and come back. it was fun tough.

My DH and I were in Barbados in Nov. and we went on the Silvermoon. It was fabulous. We only had 10 people on the boat and a mate and a capt. We were treated like gold. All drinks included and lunch and snorkelling with the turtles and over a wrecked barge. I can't recommend them enough.

We did the Thriller Turtle & Shipwreck Snorkeling tour in Sept & it was our highlight excursion.

We Snorkelled with the sea turtles & afterwards at 2 large shipwrecks in only 15 feet of water. They were hundreds of colorful tropical fish over the wrecks. Then we made a third stop at a beach where we were served rum punch snacks & a full bar. Some of us swam again or sat on the beach. There were only 10 on our tour that day. The captain was Stephen & it was a really nice large powerboat, highly reccomend this tour it was only $45. as we booked direct, their e-mail is thriller-ocean-tours@caribsurf.com

http://www.stkitts-tourism.com/

this is the tourism link and you can find lots of info about the island here.

there is a train tour you can take there (they also gave us drinks and snacks on the trip) for about $80 per person , there are also many people to take you on a drive tour of the island for about $20 per person with a van of about 6 or 8 at most in it---was also a great way to see the place.

hope the link helps you to find things to do there

I emailed Silver Moon but they have two charters when we'll be there. Any other suggestions? Eco tours sounds great but not for $90@! I have emailed Stephen at Thriller Turtle & Snorkling ($45) and am waiting to hear from him. Any just snorkling beach reccomendations?

Lynne we took a short taxi ride to Bridgetown,5-10 minutes depending on traffic it only cost $3 per person. You can find them quite easily when you get to Bridgetown. It's a small town & the waterway they call careenage is in the center. WE did a bit of shopping before the tour & walked back to the Cruise Terminal 20 minutes no problem.

Don't know about St. Kitts but just back from Antigua and Barbados on 11/26 sailing of Serenade.

For Barbados: Please read my review of Cameron Reid tour. I highly recommend him from someone who does not like mass excursions (cattle calls my husband calls them !).

As far as Antigua - we rented a Hertz Suzuki Grand Vitara for the day for $ 57.00+. You must get insurance $16.00 and $20.00 for Antiguan drivers license (just show them your U.S. license) makes for a good souvenier. If you reserve thru the main office- not the airport or resort locations they will deliver to ship (actually a hotel right off the ship) so was really convenient. Check their website for locations and then just call international 800 number for reservations. Easy.

Driving is on the left and the road are "lets say fun" but was not bad traffic wise once out of town and really really enjoyed this island. Headed over to Long Bay to snorkle - beautiful beach but just like the other islands we visited we are sad to say that reefs are in bad shape. We are all divers (4 of us - best friends) and have dove all over. Decided not to dive this trip as we wanted to experience this islands and dive trips eat up too much of our shore time. After a few hours there we continued around the loop (one main road goes all around) to Nelson Dockyard (did not stop) but then to Fig Tree Drive....OMG - this place is a must see. There is a small area of construction so you have to take a detour (not marked) but no big deal. Stopped at a local vendor near the rainforest entrance and bought some pineapple jam (homemade) - THANKS ELAINE ! she let me use her bathroom in her home! Then over to east coast and around to Jolly Harbor and then back to ship.

The island is not very large and very scenic.... would love to go back to this island again.

Whatever you decide to do you will have a great time !! Let me know if you have any ???'s. Tex
