jjennings1990 Posted August 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2017 Hi everyone Sorry if we're not allowed to post Excursion specific posts I wasn't quite sure of the rules on whether this belongs here or on the mexican riviera board. My cruise for Ensenada leaves in less than two months and I am ecstatic . I am definitely a drinker but have never actually been bar hopping , the thought of drinking , dancing, and making a new cruise friend or two sounds pretty appealing though . I'm cruising solo and am just curious about what the excursion was like in general. It's pretty cheap and the reviews are positive, I'm already leaning towards paying for the excursion but I figure the more insight into what I'm paying for the better right? Any opinions , thoughts, advice on this particular excursion ? Thank you !
geckoaz Posted August 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2017 I personally would be scared to death to bar hop in that city. I wont do another excursion in that city. My last cruise put us in unmarked buses with police escorts to the border. We passed many military vehicles with large machine guns. Go to an all inclusive resort. Way safer or stay on the ship.

easyboy Posted August 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 19, 2017 You can also post this on the California Coastal / Pacific Northwest board where there are threads on Ensenada.. Some may have experience on your interest. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=

Never in my 45 years of going there have I ever seen anything that closely resembled what you're describing.
SadieN Posted August 19, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2017 We've been going to the area since the early 1990's. Stopped driving down in the early 2000's. Think we've been to Ensenada about 30 times over the past 10 years and haven't had an issue. I'd have no problem going by myself but first time there I'd take a tour. Never done the bar hop but the Wine excursion and the Blow Hole excursions are a lot of fun. The wine excursion is more contained. Sillyjilly Posted August 19, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 19, 2017 I didn't think the bar hop excursion was worth it. You still have to pay for your drinks at each bar. You are better off taking the free shuttle to where the bars are.

cap'n chunk Posted August 19, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 19, 2017 Shuttle costs $3 round trip, can walk it in 10 minutes. Google maps says it's more like a 25 minute walk. Instead of the crowded shuttle we just walked out to the street in front of the cruise port, then took an Uber which is less than $3 each way. Much more comfortable and convenient. cap'n chunk Posted August 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 19, 2017 Since you are going solo, I understand why you want to take the excursion to meet people. I just looked at the excursion details. It looks like they take you to Hussongs, Papa's 'n Beer, and Ryerson 51. Those are all right next to each other. You can save yourself $30+ by just going down there yourself and walking from bar to bar. I'd also recommend the wine tasting excursion. That area has some really good wine, and wine tasting is always a good way to meet new friends. Bookworm1985 Posted August 19, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 19, 2017 I was there in 2013 after going to Hawaii. Personally, I did not feel safe in that city. I especially wouldn't feel safe eating or drinking anything there. If I ever take another cruise there, I will just stay on the ship. This is just my own peronal experience. geckoaz Posted August 19, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 19, 2017 About two hours to otay mesa. Cruise was about 10 years ago. My last stop on a cruise to ensenda wasvtwo years ago. I stayed on the ship. My last bar hoping was in aruba. A lot of fun on party bus. We did it last year. With all the reports of bad booze in mexico resorts i would be very careful. Can see the ship from any street heading towards the water.

I meant it's specifically a 25 minute walk from the boat to the places that you go on Carnival's bar hopping excursion (Papas n beer, Hussongs)
JLee1973 Posted August 19, 2017 #18 Share Posted August 19, 2017 I bar hop in Ensenada everyone. I just walk to the bar's. It's a 10-15 minute walk along the waterfront. To the poster who described military vehicles and police escorts. I've been several times with 3 trips this year. Never have I seen what they describe. gdisney Posted August 20, 2017 #20 Share Posted August 20, 2017 But can you walk back after bar hopping???? Walk, stumble, crawl, have someone drag you, whatever works. Just get back before the ship sails. ;) Sent from my iPhone using Forums
ClassyGame Posted August 20, 2017 #21 Share Posted August 20, 2017 We did this excursion in April, and it was a lot of fun! We had a very nice tour guide who made the whole thing a lot of fun. The three bars we went to were right next to each other, and at no point during the excursion did I feel unsafe (my friends and I were all females in our late 20s and early 30s). We got fairly tipsy (we drank more than just the included drinks) and it was nice to have the transportation back to the ship pre-arranged. calvegas04 Posted August 20, 2017 #24 Share Posted August 20, 2017 Just take the shuttle to the bars, look for Rudy on the main street. He can get you anything you want lol
sheenasuzanne Posted August 21, 2017 #25 Share Posted August 21, 2017 Ensenada was a pretty scary place. I got off the boat only to turn around and get right back on... and that was 10 years ago when Mexico was relatively safer than it is now. I would personally advise against getting inebriated in a place like Ensenada!
