galeforce9 Posted August 21, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2017 Can anyone recommend a weather forecast website for Alaska. There are plenty out there. Obviously I realise the weather is really unpredictable but I wondered if any have better reputations than others. AKStafford Posted August 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2017 Living here in Wasilla (40 miles north of Anchorage) I find Accuweather comes the closest. But even then they are only right about 50% of the time.

JULIE A A Posted August 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2017 Thank you! Love the search by city and month ahead forecast, even if it is only accurate 50% of the time :) Thank you :)
Northern Aurora Posted August 21, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2017 We live in Fairbanks, and have found Weather Underground to be the most accurate during both the winter and summer months. Just another comment about Fairbanks weather -- visitors often check the Fairbanks weather forecast before heading toward Denali. While Fairbanks is just over a two hour drive north of the entrance to Denali NP, our weather and that in the Denali area will most likely be totally different. JULIE A A Posted August 21, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2017 Thanks Northern Aurora - that site is easier for me to use as its in celsius already :) Looks like I'll be needing that extra jacket in Fairbanks mid-September!
Sequim88 Posted August 24, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 24, 2017 Big fan of Windy.com . You have to set all the sliders correctly and it's kind of geeky but gives a great picture of what's going on now and in the forecasts. Slider at the right side for altitude needs to be set to surface. Then selections at right for Winds, Temps, Clouds, Precip, Waves and Pressure. Another slider at the bottom for time frame - hour by hour - which can also be automated with the arrow/play symbol. Also at bottom right you can select which computer models (NAM, GFS, ECMWF aka European model) and units of measure (for C° and Kph).
new_cruiser Posted August 24, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2017 I use a weather app called Dark Sky when we visited and it was quite accurate. It will show up to a week ahead. You can see precipitation probability by the hour. That is pretty accurate for the current day and the next day - farther out and it shifts around a lot. The one problem I had is that "Denali National Park" appears to bring up the weather high in the mountains, rather than the weather one is going to experience on the park road. "Kantishna" or Denali Park Road brings up a more relevant weather forecast.
