Comparisons between Escape and Getaway

I went on my first solo cruise back in May, on the Gem. I guess you could say I’m hooked, as I’ve reserved another cruise for next May (on another line to experience another ship/itinerary.)

I’m watching two cruises on Norwegian for this fall. One is on the Escape, the other on Getaway. From what I’ve checked on NCL,the ships are the same class, built a year apart. I’m leaning one way due to itinerary, but would like to know if there are significant differences between the two ships, even though as mentioned they’re the same class ship. I don’t drink, and not much on late night partying (getting too old for that) so not looking for that info.

I know both are larger than the Gem, and of course are newer. In addition to asking about differences in the two ships, I do have specific question:

Both ships have the single studios. I’d prefer a balcony (got spoiled with a mini-suite), but one negative on the Gem was that there wasn’t much organized activities for solos (I only found one solo meet during the week, and there was only one other person there.) Is there access to the Studio lounge for solo cruisers not staying in studios? (That’ll play a part in which cabin to reserve.)

We've been on both ships and I think they are really close to the same. We were in a balcony room on the Escape and on the getaway a haven spa suite. My brother cruised with us on the Escape and had his own balcony room as he felt the studio would feel like he was sleeping in a closet lol. He went done to the singles lounge a few times and did several of the things they had for singles to do. I didn't think he missed out on anything being in a regular balcony cabin.

Personally I like the Escape a tad better only from personal experience with the crew etc.. I like to gamble and did like the casino better on the Escape. Although so far my favorite ship is actually the Epic absolutely loved it. We are back on the Escape in Feb. wanted to try out there haven spa suite!

I'm sure you'll have fun in which ever you choose!

Breakaway and Getaway are the same class.

Escape and Getaway are not the same class.

Which ships are you looking at? There are differences between all 3.

I see my mistake. I saw "Breakaway" on both, and thought they were the same. Thanks for letting me know about a difference between the two! :D

I I’d prefer a balcony (got spoiled with a mini-suite)...

In that case, side balconies on Escape will be deeper than the comparable side balcony on Getaway. Aft-facing balconies differ in depth so it depends on which 2 balconies are being compared.

The restaurants are similar but each ship has a few restaurants that the other doesn't.

There are Haven differences as well. Escape's courtyard has a retractable roof while Getaway's courtyard does not. Escape has better cantilevered hot tubs. Both ships have the same number of elevators but Escape has more decks and people (expect longer waits).

Although not important in your case, Escape has more bars/alcohol establishments.

The ropes course is different between tge 2 ships, etc. There are differences but most people (myself included) prefer Escape but prefer Getaway's usual itinerary.

We have been in balcony rooms on Escape, Breakaway and Getaway. Love them all and very similar to each other!!! Whichever you choose will be great.

Whilst the rooms are identical besides a different decor color the balcony depth is very different between Breakaway class Breakaway, Getaway and the larger Breakaway Plus class Escape's balcony.

Two Wheels described the differences perfectly OP.
