Texas Hold'em Games on shorter cruises

While on the Carnival Miracle a few weeks ago (7 day Mexican Riviera), I had the privilege of participating in a Texas Holdem game. The game was advertised as a tournament but it was more of a qualifying game with a pot of around 700. The staff mentioned that the aside from the 1st place winner getting the pot, 1st and 2nd place winners get an invitation to join in some kind of an "ultimate" poker tournament next year on another cruise, where the pot is somewhere around 100K. Anyone know if these qualifying tournaments exist on the shorter 2-3 day cruises? Looking at the Imagination / Inspiration out of Long Beach to Ensenada.
