Back to back cruises

We are doing 2 cruises on the Jade next week. The first is to New York from Southampton, then the second is a round trip back to New York. We have the same cabin on both cruises so our luggage can stay where it is. Will we have to disembark the fist time in New York or can we must stay aboard? We would only have a few hours, so we aren't planing to go anywhere.

In 2015 we did a b2b aboard the Epic (Europe). We kept our same back on the second cruise. We were given the option of staying on board or getting of the ship. We got off and spent the time exploring Las Rambla and getting water (which you are no longer allowed to bring on board). I hope the option to disembark has not changed as we have a b2b coming up aboard the Spirit and would like to get off.

In the US they usually "zero down" the ship so you'll be led off the ship, wait in a special transit area, then reboard before the new passengers.

Since the ship will have just completed a transatlantic crossing sometimes the Coast Guard does a more thorough check of the ship. So your wait time to reboard might be a little longer than usual, but maybe not.

A few days before you reach NY you'll be given a letter with specific instructions on where/when to meet to be led off/on ship as in-transit passengers.

You had be a bit confused there. For others like me they are coming from Southampton to NY, then a cruise RT from NY going to Canada.

Okay... with that aside, they will have to deal with Immigration since you are coming from Europe which is different than some back to back cruises. You should be able to return to ship shortly.

As to very little time in NY, when we did this once - we got off and walked over to Times Square and back. Just a thought.

I just did back-to-back round trips on the Breakaway from New York.

When you check in in Southampton, ask them to print your key card reflecting the end date of the second leg. If they won't do that, then you will be able to get a new key card at guest services on the night before the turnaround day.

On the turnaround day, you may leave all of your luggage in your cabin, but you must go through customs and immigration. You may choose either to be escorted off and back on, or to get off and on independently at your convenience within the printed time limits for both.

Unless you live in New York, the weather is bad, or your mobility is very limited, I suggest using the few available hours to explore the city. The Intrepid museum is two blocks away and well worth visiting if you have any interest in the space shuttle, the Concorde, military aircraft, and life aboard an aircraft carrier during WW II and Vietnam.

I just had a look at the itinerary of your Jade TA ... the first US entry port is Portland Maine - this is where you ALL need to go thru the mandatory US Immigration - somehow, somewhere (on ship or in port).

This said, when you get to New York all you need to do is go thru the Customs - which is the easy part. I would suggest you wait until all is off ship before you do. I'm sure there will be other pax in same boat as you, and you will receive In Transit instructions.

ENJOY!
