Cali wreck location and dive shops?

Can anyone explain where the Cali wreck is, and what dive/snorkel shops are there? We’ve heard it’s left of the cruise terminal up North Church St. past Fort George and the lighthouse, but is it as far as the Mary St. intersection, or near the Waterfront Center, or back around the Fort St. intersection?

And apparently there are dive shops there, Kirk Sea Tours, Don Foster’s Dive Shop, and a new branch of Divers Down has a dock near there, but which one is closest? Some of these are apparently in the Watler Building with the Big Bamboo Pub, and Rackham’s Pub and Hammerheads Pub are near there too. Heard the closest put-in spot was the ladder behind Rackham’s patio, is that right? Thx.

-Bob (who’s real tired of snorkelling in the hot tub looking at feet & bubbles)

it says: Wreck of the Cali is one of the top Grand Cayman snorkeling sites, located just off the George Town shore line approximately 100 feet from shore.

If this is really that close to downtown you need to be sure you aren't close to the tender traffic from the cruise ships.

In all my trips to GC, I don't recall ever visiting this site....maybe cuz it is shallow?? However the other downtown wreck, the Benwood used to be only dove when their was no tender traffic, either on a no cruise ship day or as a nite dive. It was just too dangerous with all the tenders going to and fro.

Hey BJ thx for the tips. Yes the Balboa wreck is in the harbor where the tender traffic goes, the Cali is a little further north out of the way. But the Cali is such a big cruise tour that the danger is getting swamped by cruise snorkelers :-) We also want to snorkel the Gamma, near the beach further north. But we can't find out which operator is nearest the Cali.
