eggcrate mattresses?

What are eggcrate mattresses? I've never asked for one or felt the need for one. Since I just injured my ribs with a slip on the ice - would this be something I should ask for, since I am uncomfortable sleeping? I still have 30+ days but am a little concerned that I won't be healed by the time of our port intensive cruise.

 

Are they like eggcrates or are they soft? I don't understand. It seems like you would have little egg holes sticking in your body.

 

Can someone explain to me if it would make me more comfortable for our upcoming cruise.

Kay they are soft. It looks bumpy just like an egg crate but they do help. Just ask when you see your room steward and they will get it for you. We requested one once and they do help. Hope you get to feel better before your cruise.Kaye there is a thread already started on page 1 call eggcrate mattress pad. Maybe this will help you.

Try it, you'll like it. My wife always asks for TWO to be placed on our bed in our cabin. It DOES make a difference.

O.K., I'm convinced to give it a try. If I don't like it I can always ask to take it away, right? I'm getting the feeling that it might be a mandatory on future cruises.
