cdnscrapper Posted December 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2005 Can anyone tell me what it's like boarding at Fort Lauderdale - I recently injured a foot & can not stand or walk on it for long. Does RCCL have wheelchairs available at the dock like the airlines do to get you from the counter to the plane? Thanks for any info.
IrisF Posted December 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2005 Hi, The easy thing to do is call RCI or your TA and speak to the Special Needs desk. They will be able to answer your question. I would expect they would be able to help you to board, but if you will need a wheelchair for the entire cruise, you will probably have to rent one from one of the independent agencies that serve the cruise industry. The Special Needs desk will be able to tell you who you can call to rent a wheelchair or scooter for your use during the cruise. The supplier will deliver the item to your cabin and when the cruise is over they pick it up there too. Have a great cruise, Irisf

DEL67 Posted December 14, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2005 Yes, they have wheelchairs for embarkation, although, if you arrive at a busy time, you may have to wait for one. And, yes, calling the Special needs desk is a good idea. However, if you think you will need a wheelchair while aboard ship or in ports (which is probably a good idea), do NOT depend on RCCL no matter what they tell you. We did and we never got one because too many others kept the chairs that they used to get aboard. Either rent one at home or have a company like CareVacations deliver one to the ship. cmason Posted December 14, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 14, 2005 the FLL port is TINY...not like Miami. When you walk in, there are seats some 50 ft from the entrance...the walk to the security screening is about 25 ft, and then around the corner to wait in line for check in. The escalator is next to check in, and you are a short walk to the ship from there.....
cdnscrapper Posted December 19, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted December 19, 2005 Thanks everyone for all the help. Called RCCL and no problem - thankfully I won't need one onboard.
