Take the upgrade?

Is the aft cabin below a dining room? Might not be worth $290 extra. Check the deck plans first and maybe even a mock booking to see if you are saving anything by doing that.

We would be below other cabins and to book outright would cost us $500 so it would be a savings of $210. I have never been on that low of a deck before, that is one of my concerns.

I agree. Doing mock booking is also one of our way to check if there is really a bargain.

Am I reading it wrong- it's 298$ MORE to upgrade correct? If so that seems to look like I would be paying more total than what a new booking is offering for a balcony? Seems pricy to me. .. but never had an offer to upgrade before.

If I go online mock booking I can get a balcony for 538$. If I add the 298$ offer upgrade I will be paying over 100$ more to upgrade than the mock booking.

We paid around $900 for our original ocean view room including gratuities so if we booked at the $538pp for the balcony as a new booking we would end up paying around $500 more. So for us it would be a savings of about $200 to just pay the $290 upgrade cost. The $290 is in addition to your original total, not the new booking total.
