ScottishMaid Posted December 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 25, 2017 I can't find the current location. Its strange because Marin Traffic is not update. This shows where it is now, off Nha Trang, north of the storm. http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shipposition.phtml?call=PCHM Don't worry, Captain Turner will alter course if necessary. We avoided a typhoon in November on the Volendam and encountered rough weather from storms. He is very experienced and has been at sea for over 40 years. chengkp75 Posted December 26, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 26, 2017 I can't find the current location. Its strange because Marin Traffic is not update. Marinetraffic, like all consumer AIS tracking sites, relies on land based AIS receiving stations to report the ship's position. When a ship is out of range of a station (20-30 miles), marinetraffic will report the last received location, and the time that location was received. If you pay for their "upgrade" to satellite AIS, they claim you can track any ship anywhere in the world using the satellite AIS system, but in reality, they are limited to a couple of updates every 24 hours. However, using the free site, if you know roughly where your ship should be (based on last known course and speed), look for the proper colored (blue for cruise ships) "ghost" ship icon, and that will generally be your target, listed as "cruise ship position received by satellite).
