dagcat Posted December 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2017 Hello - We are cruising out of Warnemunde in July, 2018 and arriving the day before in Berlin about 2pm. We are thinking of taking a train directly to Warnemunde, and spending the night there, rather than staying in Berlin and taking the train in the morning. It looks we can purchase train tickets in advance @ https://www.bahn.com, but since we don't know how long it will take to get through customs we aren't sure which train we will be able to take. Question - how easy is it to buy tickets at the airport for a train to Warnemunde? Does anyone have experience doing this? I'm looking for any helpful advice :-) Thanks, Ross

dagcat Posted January 1, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted January 1, 2018 Thanks for the link, I see some great info there!! It looks like we can buy a cross country ticket or a weekend ticket online before, without having to specify a specific train. Do you know if we can catch a train directly from the airport to Rostock or do we need to catch a bus or local train to another station? We've never traveled to Berlin before and aren't familiar with the transportation options available at the airport.

I am guessing TXL so if it is SXF, post again and I will give you instructions from SXF to Hbf (main train station). There are no direct trains from either airport to Berlin Hbf. Options: Public transportation/fastest way to reach Berlin Hbf: TXL: take the TXL Express Bus from TXL toward Alexanderplatz and get off at Hauptbahnhof (main station). If you open the PDF link below, you will note that S+U Hauptbahnhof is the 5th stop on the route. The bus runs every 10 - 15 minutes and can take between 20 - 25 minutes (depending on traffic) to reach Berlin Hbf. You will be dropped right outside the main terminal. At the airport, you will find the stop for the TXL Express Bus right outside the main terminal. Adult Fare: 2.80 Euros. PDF Express Bus Route with stops: http://www.bvg.de/images/content/linienverlaeufe/LinienverlaufBusTXL.pdf Taxi: Cost should be in the range of 20-25€ and travel time will be only marginally quicker than the express bus. Taxi ranks are easy to spot outside the terminal.

dogs4fun Posted January 1, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 1, 2018 (edited) thanks for the info there are no direct trains between airport and city centre-obviously I read something wrong not OP but we are flying into Schoenburg airport-as there will be 4 of us may be easier to get a taxi No, you didn't read the info wrong if you are arriving SXF. There are trains from SXF but no trains whatsoever from TXL (sorry, I must more carefully check what I wrote before posting as my post was misleading :*) The train we took (SXF) was not direct - it required a station change. In your case (4 people), I think a taxi would be the better alternative. Ultima Thule Posted January 1, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 1, 2018 (edited) S-bahn train S-9 will take you straight from Schönefeld to Berlin Haubtbahnhof. It runs every 20 minutes and the trip takes some 45 minutes. You'll need Zone C tickets. http://www.s-bahn-berlin.de/fahrplanundnetz/pdf_linien/S_S9_10.12.2017.pdf http://www.s-bahn-berlin.de/pdf/S_U-Bahn_12_2017.pdf Regional trains RE7 and RB14 works as well and are faster than the S-bahn train: https://www.bahn.de/p/view/mdb/pv/deutschland_erleben/berlin_brandenburg/regionales/pdf/2016/mdb_239904_airport_express_flyer_vbb_ab_ab_dez_2016.pdf https://www.bahn.de/regional/view/mdb/pv/deutschland_erleben/berlin_brandenburg/streckenfahrplaene/2017_2018/mdb_262387_re7.pdf Edited January 1, 2018 by Ultima Thule

The Airport Express is direct, fast and the fare is great (3.40€pp). It appears that this would be the better option for fabnforty - even with a group of 4. No traffic with which to contend and, bonus, less expensive than the taxi.
