There's a lot of discussion about cruise certificates so I want to share my recent experience.

I posted this on the Casino forum but as it doesn't get a lot of traffic, I'm re-posting here.

On our Anthem cruise in the summer, I received a certificate for a complimentary balcony room and my husband had a certificate for an indoor stateroom. None of the sailings on the certificates appealed to us and we wanted to sail on Harmony which was not included on the list.

I phoned Club Royale last week to see if we could get a room on Harmony for the January 6 sailing. As expected, there were very few rooms available at such short notice. However, the agent found us a Central Park room (window only) and said it would cost $500. I insisted that the room should be complimentary and asked him to check. He put me on hold for a few minutes and when he came back, said it was OK, the room would be complimentary - just have to pay the usual port fees and taxes. So, there you have it. Don't accept the agent's first response.

I've used a certificate a few weeks after the 30 days, but never tried months after I received one. I've also called them when I didn't have any certificates and was given a discount over the C & A price.

You will always get a better price on your cruise from the casino if you are a registered casino player and you have a rating. You don't need a certificate. We received over $900 off of our upcoming cruise. We get our price from our TA (which his always already discounted), we call the casino and have it repriced and then they turn the booking over to our TA. Have done this for many cruises. We also used one of our free certs. once on an Allure sailing, balcony cabin, upgraded to a Jr. Suite for a total of $200 for both of us. Usually the certs. don't have sailings that we are interested in.

So how do you know if you have a rating? I recently booked Oasis on BOGO sale with $100. OBC. I was able to redeem My Vegas rewards for an additional $250 OBC. A couple of days it appeared that the cruise price had gone down so I called and spoke to an agent to see if my price had lowered. I did tell her that I did not want to change anything if it meant I would lose My Vegas credits and she put me on hold and told me she would check with Casino Royale. After a short time, she came back on the line and said Casino Royale said it was okay and I would save approximately $450 more. When she sent me an invoice I was no longer on a BOGO sale and had lost my $100 OBC but the casino rate was significantly lower so it was definitely a win for me! I am unsure how I might have qualified for the casino rate? I have played limited Slots on our four cruises but definitely nothing significant. I fear I will never get this rate again!

Following. With all the changes our perks are so random. Last cruise our 18yo son got more credit than my husband which made no sense at at all. Lesson so far seems to be keep trying with the casino group.
