LinVirginia Posted January 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2018 Will we see whales on this trip or would a whale watching trip once back to Juneau be in order? I have reserved one for 4:30 but a response by another poster has me second-guessing that choice.
peety3 Posted January 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2018 Of the two times we've done this tour, the first time we were greeted by a humpback, and the second time we "followed" some orcas (though never close by any stretch) in the fog. There's NO WAY we'd miss the chance for a Juneau-based whale watch just because we did the TA small-boat tour. Our worst whale watch was way better than what we saw on our best TA small-boat tour. JT1962 Posted January 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2018 It is possible that you will see whales, but the Tracy Arm excursion is not primarily a whale watching trip. While they will usually stop when whales are sighted, they aren't able to spend as much time as a whale watching excursion due to the distance they must travel to return to Juneau. If you have time to do both, and want the best chance to see whales, book both excursions. The more time on the water, the better the chances of seeing whales. CruisinWithDLS Posted January 7, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2018 I think the whale watching in Juneau is not to be missed! We did it twice and nothing compares to being up close and personal with whales in every direction you look. It was so awesome. I personally would not miss it just b/c of taking the Tracy Arm excursion.
Budget Queen Posted January 7, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 7, 2018 Depends what YOU want out of your Alaska trip? Basic, no way is a Tracy Arm transit comparable to any whale watch tour. For some, just a brief "look" is enough. Especially with your claim of your "doubt"??? Are you really interested? Frankly, there are way more numerous raves, and "must" claims on these board, to make a single "doubt" post insignificant for an intent whale watcher., :) :) :) All kinds of preferences. You'll need to figure out yours.
