Bunko Posted January 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2018 We are on the Radiance of the Sea New Zealand Cruise April 6th, after the cruise we have 6 days in Sydney. We want to go to the great barrier reef, and also to Steve Irwin Zoo. Does anyone know the best way to do this or a tour company.(y)

blackshirt Posted January 7, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2018 I hope you realize the Great Barrier Reef is nowhere close to Sydney. It is off the northeast coast of Australia about 1500 miles away from Sydney. Still doable in 6 days but you are talking a bit of a trip.
Esilef Posted January 8, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2018 We are on the same cruise as you. A suggestion is that you fly Jetstar to cairns and go to the reef from there Australia is a large country.
GUT2407 Posted January 8, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2018 That’s a big spread please look at a map. GBR you’ll need to go to Cairns. Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin) Brisbane. Now when you look at the map remember that Australia is pretty much the same dimensions as the USA.
wagtail_syd Posted January 8, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Trying to squeeze in Sydney, Australia Zoo (Brisbane) and GBR (Cairns) is too much for 6 days. If you are keen on the reef you could fly Sydney to Cairns, do a day trip to the reef and also visit Hartley's Crocodile Adventures to see some Australian animals. Be aware that there is no beach in Cairns so can be nicer to book accommodation at one of the beaches to the north (Palm Cove, Trinity Beach or even Port Douglas). I've been disappointed with the reef on recent trips due to damage and bleaching so do some tripadvisor research before you plan your whole trip around a trip to the reef. There may be other things that you would enjoy more.
