Lucky Granny Posted March 13, 2018 #26 Share Posted March 13, 2018 Do you know if the tours only guide you if you are following a prepared tour? Or can you get information about wherever you are driving? We have plans to visit Schofield Barracks before touring the rest of the island. We'd like to jump in and out of a round the island tour as we go. Does it work that way?

pepcab Posted March 24, 2018 #29 Share Posted March 24, 2018 So this app needs to have data in order to use? Can it be used offline?
NJcruiserfamily Posted March 24, 2018 Author #30 Share Posted March 24, 2018 So this app needs to have data in order to use? Can it be used offline? Yes. Once you purchase the tour you want you download it. It doesn’t require data after that. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Lucky Granny Posted March 25, 2018 #33 Share Posted March 25, 2018 If you lose cell service, it can't know where you are to tell you about it and to tell you what to do next. So how does it work without cell? Does it just keep going and you have to keep up or turn it off? Not sure what we will have if we lose cell service. GPS still works even when your cell signal does not. As long as the app is downloaded it will work fine. GPS is a little more accurate with cell service working so it might think you are half a mile ahead or behind where you actually are but it’s not hard to fill in the gaps. But the GPS feature of your phone works independently from your data.

TickledBlue Posted May 15, 2018 #36 Share Posted May 15, 2018 Used the following tours on my Samsung S8: Oahu Circle Island Road to Hana Volcanoes National Park All 3 were well worth the money paid. All 3 were very easy to use and provided a lot of interesting stories in between the sites. Didn't have any problems with the apps being confused or lagging where we were with both GPS and cell phone service on.
Lucky Granny Posted May 15, 2018 #37 Share Posted May 15, 2018 We're back.....great trip! We used the Shaka guide for the Oahu Circle Island tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. We never did lose service. At one point we missed a turn without realizing it. As we watched our blue dot move away from the tour, we understood what we had done so we kept driving and caught up with it a little later. As soon as were back on track, the narration picked up where we were. Amazing. We were able to connect the phone to our car so the narration came from the auto speakers and everyone could hear well. We also did part of the Kauai North Shore tour but turned back a bit before Princeville because of the rain. We did enjoy a couple of beautiful beaches before the rain started. I highly recommend the Shaka guides.
