can you buy cases of bottled water in the drug stores in San Juan currently? Friends of ours want to take a case on the Jewel in two weeks.

Yes, you can but it's absolutely not necessary...the water onboard is fine for drinking.

Can you buy a bottle of water while walking around Old San Juan? If so, how much is a typical bottle? I've heard the locals need it, so may be hard to find.

Just wondering if it is restocked in stores because so much if the island still has no running water or power......our friends are interested in taking it on board

Cases of water are readily available in the drugstores. We were there the beginning of December and a case of small bottles was around $4.00.
