Is there an expected tip at these specialty restaurants? I know it is $20.00 per person extra. What about tips?

I just dined at both restaurants on the 12/3 sailing of the Jewel - although the bill said that gratuity is included - we did tip- as the service was outstanding. Happy cruising. Karen

The 20 dollar charge pp includes the tip...however when they bring you the statement they leave a line for you to add a tip in addition...I left cash instead - the service was great !!

I've wondered this too... how much is a reasonable tip? We left $20 at Chops, but it was a total guess. Too much, too little? :confused:

We just ate at both restaurants this last week and althought the $20 pp charge says it includes gratuity we did tip $10 extra at each restaurant because the service was great.

If the tip is included I don't give any extra. I paid for the great service and better quality food with the $20.00. That being said the quality of the steak in the dining room has really gone done hill.

We ate there twice and tipped an additional $10 per visit. The food and service were the highlight of our cruise.

We ate at Portofino once and Chops twice, left an extra $10 per person all three times, plus the gratuity on the bar tab of course. Bar tab was on the Seapass slip, other gratuity left in cash.

This can be a big issue. Some people believe you should tip a very large amount. One poster stated, although I do not have any proof, that the staff only gets $3.00 per person of the $20.00 and you should tip 10-15 dollars a person. Others have, correctly, pointed out that the gatuity is indeed included and no other is expected. You will need to tip as you see fit. You do not need to tip more but it would be appreciated. It's one of those personal decisions. Just like tipping your room steward more than the suggested amount.

We generally leave an additional $5 per person tip.
