ntourtelotte Posted January 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2018 We arrive at 2:30 on Sat afternoon for a Sunday cruise. We are renting a car (using points) as the rental taxes and parking is way cheaper than shuttle service both ways for our family of 4. So, this means we have flexibility on what to do. Then we fly out at 4:30 after debarkation. So, we have a few hours in Houston on Sat afternoon/evening and a few hours in Galveston or Houston before flying home. Any suggestions? We've looked about Buffalo Bayou Park and know that the seawall in Galveston might be places to visit. Thanks!
Galveston Cruiser Posted January 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2018 There are numerous things to see/do in Galveston without the hassle of driving around in a big City. See Galveston.com for ideas and galvestonhistory.org. Bishop’s Palace, Texas seaport museum and tall ship Elissa, Ocean Star drilling rig, Bryan Museum, Moody Gardens, Historic Strand and Post Office sts, Victorian homes in East End to name a few. Could you please share where you are parking for the week? We have a family of 5, so I am definitely looking at renting a car as well. thanks! Eshik Posted January 25, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2018 Moody Gardens is always great if you don’t mind admission cost. Otherwise, go walk the Strand and shop. Tons of homegrown shops selling just about anything you can imagine.
Aggiebuttercup Posted January 25, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2018 In the Houston area, there's also Johnson Space Center (NASA) that provides tours. Not too far from there is the Kemah Boardwalk, with restaurants and amusement park rides. We have the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences (which also has a planetarium and a butterfly center), a good Children's Museum, and the Houston Fine Arts Museum. bradsnana Posted January 26, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2018 Herman Park is a great stop if you have a car. It is in the museum district and the park is wonderful. The zoo is there and they have a train the kids love. Best place for a picnic lunch if the weather is nice.
baabtx Posted January 28, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 28, 2018 Houston, as the 4th largest city in the country has an Amazing Museum District near Downtown (even a fantastic Science museum for kids), next stop - Challenger Center and NASA, then the Kemah Boardwalk. Having spent every summer in Galveston growing up - well there are beaches, but the Strand is fun and some nice places on the Seawall.
