Tampa daily car rentals on day of return

I'm looking for a reasonably priced car rental for the day we return from our cruise in Tampa. Are there any by or at the port, or a shuttle from the port to the car rental place? We'd like to return it at the airport in time for our evening flight home.

Avis is located at the Embassy Suites and has a shuttle to/from the port. Sometimes the office is busy and they cannot get the shuttle to you quickly, so if you don't want to wait, you can take a taxi there for $6 pp.

Enterprise is within a couple of miles (Ybor City area) - call to see if they will pick you up.

 

Your other option is to Uber to TPA (about $15-16) where all of the rental agencies have an office.

Tampa airport rentals are much higher than off site rentals in town. If you're only renting for a day, the savings from having to get to the port to a rental location will probably not be worth the extra time and cost for Uber/taxi rather than renting at a closer location, unless you're going to be flying out of the airport the next day. Renting at the airport will prevent you from having to get transportation to the airport the next day because you drop the car at the airport rental facility, so you'd be paying to get to the airport at some point anyway.

 

It looks like the major agencies (Hertz, Avis, Budget, Enterprise) all have locations relatively close to the port so it's not necessary to go to the airport unless you have a preferred agency to reserve with. From a random 24 hour weekend rental in February looks like Avis/Budget at the Embassy Suites have the lowest rate at under $30 for a compact car, taxes and fees included. Hertz and Enterprise are closer to $40-$50.
