sunsetme Posted February 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2018 Assuming no snafus, what is the earliest you can disembark in Galveston?
dplusd Posted February 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2018 Assuming no delays, self-disembark should start about 7:00am, perhaps a bit earlier.
spookwife Posted February 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2018 With or without fog delay? Or as in our case last time, heavy winds which prevented the gangway from being able to connect?. On that one self did not even begin until after 830 Sent from my iPad using Forums
kcmspatsy Posted February 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 5, 2018 Galveston is well known for its fog delays, especially now & into March. Watch the posts on the board. A few weeks ago a ship did not get into port until 1:30 in the afternoon due to fog. Because of this & also because we fly into Houston we always stay over a day & leave out of Houston on Monday. If, like they say, weather permitting, & all goes well, yes, you could start your departure as early as seven. We only did that once, our first cruise out of Galveston, & the self departure was a nightmare. It wound through dining rooms, the casino, out onto the deck & back into the ship. Hallways were jammed with people & luggage. If you were lucky enough to catch an elevator you almost could not get out of them because of the congestion. Took quite a while to get off the ship & I was starting to worry about our flight. And it was cold & damp on the deck! We made our flight but decided it was not worth the stress to try that again! Mellowjourney Posted February 6, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2018 Earliest we got off ship last year was a little after 1:00 PM due to fog. We were the lucky ones because our flight was not until 4:05 PM. We made our flight with only 5 minutes to spare. Others had to reschedule theirs. lbjen Posted February 6, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2018 The Belize/Roatan itinerary often disembarks later too because of increased customs checks.

Aggiebuttercup Posted February 6, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2018 It does depend on your itinerary, the time of year you travel (fog could be any time between Dec - March), and how early you get in line to get off. I live near Hobby Airport and the earliest I've ever made it home was 8:30. (Off the ship, through customs, take shuttle to my car, drive 45ish minutes) I would not recommend a flight before noon. spookwife Posted February 6, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2018 How much later typically? Sent from my iPhone using Forums anywhere from an hour to 3 hours later, depending on the stuff that needs to happen when returning( crew changes etc) we were always suites, so disembarked immediately after self. we drove as we lived in San Antonio at the time. we got on the road as early at 8 am to as late as noon. ( both itineraries)

brightfeather Posted February 8, 2018 #12 Share Posted February 8, 2018 We originally had a 12:30 p.m. flight schedule out of Hobby but after seeing all the info on fog, changed it to 5 p.m. And we rented a car for the week instead of shuttle here, Uber there, etc....then we are in control and can get to where we want to go when we want to go and it wasn't any more expensive than using a service to and from the airport to the hotel, to the port, to the airport, etc. We'll just go to the space center assuming there's no fog and we can take our time. Problem solved. Diane
Desert Cruizers Posted February 8, 2018 #13 Share Posted February 8, 2018 Last July, we did self disembarking and although we were in the back of the dining room, the line began to move around 6:45, we were over to our shuttle for our car and back to Bush for our 2:15 flight around 8:30.
