I was wondering which night was formal night? We are on this ship in March and was wondering if it was the 1st sea day or last sea day? Our itinerary is mobile, sea day, Progreso, Cozumel, sea day. Also I belive the American table menu is on board, correct? You didn't happen to get any pictures of the MDR menu did you? thanks so much!!

I have snapshots from the Hub app of all the MDR menus for the 5 nights. Will post them a bit later, don’t want to hijack the review haha

Formal night will be the first sea day. I’d say that it was probably the least formal of our Carnival cruises in terms of guests dressing up. The menu was definitely American Table/American Feast. I didn’t take menu pics, but we both had prime rib on the formal night, and shared some shrimp. I think I had a scallop appetizer and my wife had cream of asparagus soup. I haven’t got to a port day yet but the new breakfast menu is pretty good.

I think formal night we saw Motown in the Universe Lounge. It was pretty good, they do a lot with 8 performers. The cruise had 3 different shows, which was nice it seems like we usually have 2. I think that Carnival has chosen to prioritize comedy and live music, rather than production shows, but it seems to be working for them and we had a good time at all the shows, although the country one later in the week was not the best.

We did the show, had dinner, and saw a comedian with some people we had met the night before. The Fantasy has the smallest comedy lounge of the ships we have sailed, except for maybe the Norwegian Sky. It was very uncomfortable but the comedian was good.

I hit the Cheers limit that night, and we had a tour scheduled in Progresso, so we turned in after the comedy show. The ship was rocking pretty good that night, but not so bad that it affected either of us.

We’ve been to Progresso twice before, both times we toured Uxmal, which is amazing. On the other hand, this meant that our experience in Progresso had been, hurry off the ship, walk in a line through the port area, get on a bus, ride for a long time, see the sites and then repeat, hurrying through the port as it was close to back on board time.

This time we decided to take a tour closer to Progresso. We are fascinated by the Mayan sites, so we chose Dzibilchaltun, which is maybe 30 minutes from the ship.

We wanted to run into Progresso, so we were up reasonably early. We went to the dining room and discovered that: a) the Fantasy had the new breakfast menu, and b) it was delicious. I’m not sure how the menu will hold up, it’s got avocado toast and something with kale, but my wife loves avocados. She had the avocado toast, I had the broken egg panini which had egg, bacon, and cheese, it was very good. Service was a little disjointed, but quick enough and we soon headed off the ship and in to the port.

There is a free shuttle in to town, the “pier” is basically a 2 lane road that is probably 2 miles long or more. We took the shuttle to a market, did a little shopping, and caught the next one back to the port to meet our excursion. If you’re less worried than I am about missing the ship, you can buy most of the same excursions at that market for less than Carnival would charge, but Progresso has never struck me as a fun place to miss the boat.

I think this is City Hall:

We made it back to the port just as a group was marching to their bus “stay in line” seems to be the mantra at Progresso. We checked and it was our tour, so we got back right on time. We hopped on the bus and headed out.

We had 2 guides, Jose and Kumen (who went by Spicy). They were entertaining and knowledgeable and the ride to Dzibilchaltun passed quickly.

Once there, they got everything sorted out and took us in to the site. The temples and other buildings there were not as impressive in size as Uxmal. The apex of the activity there was probably a few hundred years earlier. It was still an impressive site. There were several pyramids, a church the Spanish had built, the Temple of the Sun, and a cenote, a sinkhole that had filled with water. Swimming was permitted, we just soaked our feet. If you do want to swim, be advised that the only place to change would be the restrooms.

My wife reminded me that what I called the Temple of the Sun, is really called The House of the 7 Dolls. In my defense, the building is designed so that the sun shines through the opening on the Spring equinox.

There was a restaurant at the site, it was a little pricey. We paid $15 for chips and guacamole and a roasted chicken leg with vegetables. It was tasty but not much food for $15. After lunch, we headed back to the bus and an uneventful trip home.

There is a museum at the site, but it’s not open on Monday.

We shopped a little on our return, but since lunch was not very filling, we headed back to the ship. We enjoyed offerings from BlueIguana Cantina and Guy's burgers. We enjoy both venues and are glad that Carnival found a way to incorporate them on to the Fantasy Class ships.

The Military Appreciation event was held at 4:30. My father and my father-in-law as well as uncles on both sides served, so we went to recognize the veterans on the cruise. It was a very moving event. One of the performers sang the national anthem and one of the younger passengers led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. The songs of the different services were played, while guest who had served in that branch stood to be recognized. After the songs were finished Mikey (the CD) and one of his assistants took microphones around to let people share their stories. It was very moving and we were glad we attended. I think Carnival should be proud that they offer this event.

We Spent the evening on the Lido Deck. There was a pretty good young man playing country music. His only issue was that he knew nothing about football and the Promenade Deck was full of SEC football fans. He was pretty confused by the Alabama - Auburn rivalry. We enjoyed listening and singing along. Following some dinner and a few more drinks, we turned in, but in my opinion that night we had the roughest seas. With our cabin being low and forward, it was pretty loud but eventually we got to sleep.

When we got to Cozumel, the Sun was out, but it was very windy. Some of our friends had their diving excursion cancelled due to the rough seas. We had already planned to go see San Gervasio, another Mayan site.

You can take a cab for $60 and the driver will wait. It was $9.50 each to enter. Guides were available but we did not hire one.

There is a main site and three smaller areas each 300 - 500 meters away. Trails were good for the most part but some areas were very rocky. The guides did not seem to accompany people to the smaller sites. We found the site very interesting. There were lots of iguanas, butterflies and some beautiful plants as well.

My wife and I like to dance a lot. We prefer a rock band. Did you notice a good band to dance to. You mentioned the country singer but not really how well he played.

thanks,

Miata

We didn’t go to the dance clubs. I thought that all the live music acts were good, but the locations, the atrium and near the casino bar, don’t really have dance floors.
