Two days in Barcelona after cruise

Recommended Posts

Hubby and I were able to save some money by flying back home on a Tuesday instead of the Sunday we get back into port (June 10). We are staying at Hotel Suizo in the Gothic Quarter and are looking for ideas on things to do. These 2 days will come at the end of almost 3 weeks of vacation so we'll probably be in the mood for something low-key and relaxing. We plan to spend some time just walking around and enjoying the sites but there seems to be so many amazing things in the area I don't want to miss something spectacular. I checked out the TripAsvisor forums and found them annoying to navigate so I thought I'd check here. Since the Gothic Quarter is close to the port I thought cruisers would have good ideas. We are also looking for good food recommendations!

Hi New Cruiser51912,

We spent 8 days in Barcelona post cruise and it is an amazing place to visit. We did a bunch of things it all depends on what you like. Send me an email (titicaa8396@yahoo.com) so I can forward you what I used to plan my days.

We did Flamingo show and dinner which was amazing. We were also located at the Gothic Quarter across from the Cathedral of Barcelona, great square with restaurants and people playing music and singing in the alleys. We also did a tour 3 country’s (Spain,France,Andorra) in one day and visited the Pyrenees Mountains. We did Monserrat and Wineries. You also have the Sagrada Familia by Gaudi. I can go on and on. You must visit Las Ramblas and near there is La Boqueria. If you need shoes or Designer hand bags take advantage we have duty free everything. There is Global Blue where you request the form from the retailer and they give you the form filled out must show your passport to prove that you are not part of the EU countries, you get all you taxes back.

Hope my ramblings help, have fun. We’ll be in Barcelona again this fall that’s how much we loved it.

Each person is a world in itself and we all have our preferences, expectations, tastes and oddities.

Thus, in order not to be uselessly shooting in the dark, it's best if you first have a look at the myriad of possibilities that Barcelona has to offer and prepare your own 'bucket list'.

Here a few sites to get you started:

http://www.infocatalonia.eu/

http://www.timeout.com/barcelona

http://lameva.barcelona.cat/en

http://www.barcelonaesmoltmes.cat/en/inici

http://patrimoni.gencat.cat/en/discover/search

Once you have a rough itinerary, it's far easier to advise and provide tips.

And let's not forget heritage and tradition

and finally, in case you still think you might get bored, take the pulse to the city:

Enjoy! :)))

We spent 6 days in Barcelona last year and still managed to miss things of interest! Because it's a huge, sprawling city, we found that the Hop-on Hop-off bus was a good way to get a good overview.

In addition to the historic area where your hotel is located, you won't want to miss the attractions on Montjuic (hilltop) and at the Barcelona waterfront. Enjoy your trip!

.... no flamingo shows in Barcelona, sorry... flamenco shows there are a handful though.

Anyway, if you're visiting elsewhere (Seville, Madrid, etc) you might want to wait until there for an authentic flamenco show. Note that flamenco is not part of the local culture here in the Catalonia region, where Barcelona is capital of. Therefore the flamenco shows you'll stumble upon are merely geared towards tourists -much like say seeing line dancing shows in NY or the Russian ballet in Atlanta!- with all that entails. I am not demereting the artistic value, of course, just pointing that you're not going to find here "authenticity" on this art form if that's what you're after.

Still, if you're adamant, you might want to explore

But again, don't say I didn't warn you: they are quite touristy, if you catch my drift.
