Host Hattie Posted March 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2018 We'll be on QV for 4 day trip to Hamburg and back next week. According to the Hamburg Cruise Terminal website we are due to sail at 7pm from Steinwerder. How long will it take to sail along the Elbe ? Any particular highlights to look out for ? Any other comments about this trip ? Thanks in advance Sent from my HUAWEI VNS-L31 using Tapatalk
Yoshikitty Posted March 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2018 (edited) Hello, HH, what a wonderful occasion to visit our hometown. Do you need tips for the hours when QV is in port? Hopefully you will enjoy one of the long summer days for sailaway, and have the chance to see some of the sights. Shortly (<1 hr.) after the ship leaves the Steinwerder Dock, the river will merge into river Elbe and looking back to the harbour, you'll see the new Opera - Hamburg's newest and famous landmark. Sometimes, Cunarder ships will stop because there is a little fireworks for Goodbye, but that depends. Some minutes later, you'll see the famous Hamburg Villas alongside the Elbchaussee, the most expensive real estates of the City.. The little mountain is called Süllberg. Shortly after, you'll see the famous Jacob Hotel on the right and Airbus Industries on your left. Around 40 minutes later, you may be greeted by the welcoming station of Wedel. The entire trip to the Northern Sea will take many hours because of speed limitations on the way up. If you have time, we'll be happy to invite you for a coffee or beer, please pm us. Any more questions, please let us know. Edited March 12, 2018 by Yoshikitty
Host Hattie Posted March 12, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted March 12, 2018 Great photographs, thank you so much for posting. It looks as if we need to do this trip again when we'll get more of the sail in & out in daylight ! Egremont Posted March 12, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2018 No need to worry ! the clocks go forward 1 hour before we are in port. More concerned about the snow forecast and temperatures of -4 for the evening.

Airbus Factory can be interesting if there are some movements but on a Sunday night I guess activity may be limited, but you never know - I have seen flights from the North Wales Broughton site on a Sunday evening. Yoshikitty Posted March 12, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2018 Ah, just see that it happens next week.... Today, sun goes down at 18:19 - I am afraid not much light by next week after 19:00. Make sure to visit the toy train and go to the Opera (Elbphilharmonie) Plaza for a free look over Hamburg Harbour.

Host Hattie Posted March 12, 2018 Author #10 Share Posted March 12, 2018 The BBC version is a bit more hopeful, I'm afraid if Accuweather is correct we won't be seeing much of Hamburg at all. An even better excuse for a return visit ! Sent from my HUAWEI VNS-L31 using Tapatalk
