funji1 Posted March 13, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2018 We are planning a small group private tour for the one day we have in Halifax. We REALLY want to get away from the tourist traps and see as much of the island and picturesque coastal fishing villages as possible. We were looking forward to visiting Lunenburg and Mahone Bay and having a nice seafood lunch. We do not need to go to Peggy's Cove since all we have heard is it is filled with buses and a lot of crowds. Since we are on a cruise and need to allow time to get off the ship and board in time to leave at 4pm, will 9am to 3pm be sufficient time for this tour? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP ! I always trust what I learn on CC and Trip Ad.

carocox Posted March 13, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2018 I live in Nova Scotia, you could rent a car and go to both those places but I'd be worried you would be rushed. I'd plan on wanting to spend a couple hours at each place. Chester is nice too. Peggy's cove is beautiful and there are other little fishing villages close as well near there. funji1 Posted March 13, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted March 13, 2018 Thanks Ashland ! We have already booked our guide, just not sure if we have enough time to do what I listed. Whatever we decide, I am sure it will be a great trip !
funji1 Posted March 13, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted March 13, 2018 Thanks Carocox ! We really do not want to drive. But, I will look into your suggestions closer to the port! The last thing we want is to rush to see things and have to rush back to the ship.
carocox Posted March 13, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 13, 2018 Don't go to fisherman's cove. While it is nice (I like to occasionally take my nan around the boardwalk) most of the cove was purposely built for tourists. And it a super ugly drive there Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Forums mobile app

maryann ns Posted March 13, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2018 It is possible to go to Lunenburg and back in a day. If you go there on the back roads you can return on the highway. You should be going against traffic both ways. However it is a drive of over three hours and you need to allow time to see Lunenburg and for traffic and for time to return the car, etc. https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Pier+22+Pavillion,+1031+Marginal+Rd,+Halifax,+NS+B3H+4P7/Chester,+NS/Mahone+Bay,+Nova+Scotia/Lunenburg,+Nova+Scotia/Pier+22+Pavillion,+Marginal+Road,+Halifax,+Nova+Scotia/@44.5440315,-64.272647,10z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m47!4m46!1m15!1m1!1s0x4b5a2249311394dd:0xe01b5b91ec986d7c!2m2!1d-63.5647605!2d44.6377508!3m4!1m2!1d-63.9241129!2d44.6733575!3s0x4b59f2bd9436fc07:0xb63cca626921331c!3m4!1m2!1d-63.974697!2d44.6536081!3s0x4b59ed8f620d78a5:0xa4b2795e9f6df3f9!1m10!1m1!1s0x4b59e6cfeee75b63:0x4174a606efdcb278!2m2!1d-64.2388802!2d44.5421155!3m4!1m2!1d-64.3152282!2d44.5071226!3s0x4b59e059290c1b1b:0xb131d04083711ef4!1m5!1m1!1s0x4b575fcaaffa63fb:0xcac5f4cf4516e49f!2m2!1d-64.3821478!2d44.4492183!1m5!1m1!1s0x4b575bc120aed143:0x56397a4fad304deb!2m2!1d-64.3188354!2d44.3770053!1m5!1m1!1s0x4b5a2249311394dd:0xe01b5b91ec986d7c!2m2!1d-63.5647605!2d44.6377508!3e0 You could have an enjoyable drive just in the Halifax area or going on the coastal roads but not as far as Lunenburg. https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Pier+22+Pavillion,+1031+Marginal+Rd,+Halifax,+NS+B3H+4P7/Chester,+NS/Pier+22+Pavillion,+Marginal+Road,+Halifax,+Nova+Scotia/@44.618504,-64.1820118,10z/data=!4m27!4m26!1m5!1m1!1s0x4b5a2249311394dd:0xe01b5b91ec986d7c!2m2!1d-63.5647605!2d44.6377508!1m10!1m1!1s0x4b59e6cfeee75b63:0x4174a606efdcb278!2m2!1d-64.2388802!2d44.5421155!3m4!1m2!1d-64.0239111!2d44.5226379!3s0x4b59fa5579dcf971:0x52c7978ecf858d6!1m5!1m1!1s0x4b5a2249311394dd:0xe01b5b91ec986d7c!2m2!1d-63.5647605!2d44.6377508!2m1!1b1!3e0 Have a look at the routes shown in this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BjAtDscML-9Ce3VWUUsOrsVhPL7KIxb7Go_9SRi82dE/edit

mississauga Posted April 1, 2018 #18 Share Posted April 1, 2018 See post #8 above. Sorry, did not see Peggy's Cove on the maps. Interested in surrounding villages to visit on way to or from Peggy’s Cove. Wanted names so I can look up or research. Someone in a previous post had mentioned there were other interesting villages nearby to visit
