Why doesn’t NCL cruise the eastern Caribbean? I think they are the only major line not to

They do, they've just delayed returning after the hurricanes the longest. For whatever reason. They're back at the end of the year... not sure when exactly but a friend is booked eastern in Nov.

St Thomas

 

6 months after the hurricanes, blue tarps still cover many roofs (including the Department if Public Works). Some tourist areas still on portable generators. Photos from our port call 3 week’s ago.

The blue tarps are definitely there, and debris collection in some areas is still underway at many of these ports of call, but overall, these islands are back in business. I’ve been to Puerto Rico several times after the hurricanes hit and the change has been dramatic. On my last visit a few weeks ago, I noticed that the lush green is back and, not only are most businesses open again, but new ones have sprouted.

 

Overall, tourism has made a dramatic comeback, and the blue tarps in St Thomas and San Juan are more a sign of FEMA and the US government’s slow response than of these destination’s readiness and willingness to receive tourism.

 

I know that NCL probably wanted to play it safe by delaying their return to the Eastern Caribbean, but they are definitely ready. These are images from my most recent visit to San Juan.

Was interested in St Maarten and US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. They all need the tourists and cruise ships to visit. I just thought it odd that NCL is waiting so long to visit.
