HUB or WIFI or is it HUB and WIFI?

Haven't cruised in a few years and I am slightly confused. Do we need both the HUB messaging and the Social WiFi plan? Our goal is to be able to text message each other. We have purchased the Social WiFi packages for each of us. Do we also need the $5 HUB messaging? TIA

If you are both on the ship, the Hub app messaging at $5 per device will work (but many report delays in receiving messages)

Hub is for communicating with other passengers on the ship using the Hub text messaging service.

 

Social media is for accessing your social media services while onboard.

 

If you already bought the social media package then you can use Facebook messenger to communicate with each other and not have to pay for the Hub service.

just use the free HUB for ship's info. If you have a internet package, the IM works much better than the HUB text feature
