Helsinki sights (with kids)

I haven’t really planned what to do in Helsinki yet, we will just do something on our own I think. I was there many years ago, but this time will be there with our 10 and 13 year old. Any suggestions as to what we might plan on visiting?

My 3 year old liked the rock church. We also took him to Suomenlinna, which was nice and to eat at the stands in Market Square. There's a nice ferris wheel close to Market Square. If they like animals, the aquarium at Skansen was spectacular, with an open air lemur exhibit that was very special.

Skansen is actually in Stockholm but Helsinki has the Tropicario:

Tram 2 or tram 9.

 

The aquarium is located next to the amusement park. Its free entry to the amusement part itself (the rides are not free of course) so one can walk through it. (Its very hilly terrain). Instead I recommend tram 3, exit at stop Linnanmäki (pohj).

 

There is also the zoo itself an an island. 10 minute ride with ferry from the Market Square or a rather long ride with bus 16:

We did a ship’s tour which took us to the Rock Church and also the Winterworld http://www.winterworld.fi/ which was great fun, in the snow.
