Zipline Review, Puntarenas

If you are looking for something unusual this is the tour, it involved horseback riding and Zipling over 26 waterfalls and 2 repels.

We were on the Celebrity ship “Summit”. We visited Puntarenas on Sunday, 12/11/05. This was truly the highlight of our trip and all the other people that came along agreed in total.

The hotel picked us up at the dock. The guide had a sign with our group name written on it and spoke very good English, his name was Danny. They gathered us all up and we left to the Hotel. The van was in good shape and air conditioned. We had a total of 11 people. This tour requires a minimum of 8 people for them to do. We arrived at the Hotel Vista Golfo after a nice ride, about 45 minutes long into the mountains. We checked in, signed waivers and paid in cash as they Do Not Take Credit cards. Total cost $101.00/per person.

They asked everyone what experience each of us had with horses and matched each of us to a horse based on our experience level. We had a total of 4 guides, Danny was the head guide and the other three didn’t say much but were very good and kind. We rode to the top of the mountain a 45 to 60 minute ride. Just when we were hoping the ride was over, it was.

Here we were suited up into harness’s and given instruction on how to Zipline. The guides did a good job of instruction and were very, very concerned with our safety. We all felt very secure at ALL times.

We were a little afraid at first until we did our first Cable, after that we realized that this was the greatest thing ever. The waterfalls were wonderful, the scenery was beautiful. About half way through the tour we stopped and had some tuna fish sandwiches and water Danny had packed for us. We stopped at the base on a waterfall and swim in a pool at that base. It was something out of the movies, we couldn’t believe it. The water was cold but very refreshing. Then it was back to Ziplining. We Zipped all the way down the canyon and ended up back at the main road where the Van was waiting for us, right on time, no wait. We rode back to the hotel and had a very nice lunch; we had a choice of Pork chops, Chicken and rice or fish. Everyone enjoyed their lunch very much. Sodas were included; beers $2.00 and alcohol drinks were $4.00. Then it was back to the ship. As one in our group was a crew member he had to be back by 5:00pm, otherwise we could have made a couple of stops at the local markets etc. to shop and pay very cheap prices as Danny was going to take us to where the locals shop.

All in all this tour was the greatest. It was well planned, on time; the guides were VERY, VERY good. They pointed out flowers, animals, butterflies along the Zipline tour and Van ride to and from the dock. This is the best tour we have ever been on. I would recommend this tour to anyone, in okay shape. The tour started at 8:30 am and lasted until 5:00pm, a long day and worth every penny.

We were told by Danny that this tour is usually taken by crew members. The fellow that was with us (crewmember) said he had done another Zipline in Costa Rica and this one was WAY better.

I really can’t say enough about how great it was. It was everything I had hoped it would be and more.
