Balcony discount not applicable when upgrading using Free Pinnacle cruise

I just found out that the balcony discount is not applicable when upgrading using Free Pinnacle cruise.

Saw a good price on a JS guarantee for the same sail date. Called to change it and the person on the phone wanted $250 more than I had figured (triple checked my math). The CVP couldn't figure it out. Then he connected me to resolutions. Who explained that Balcony discounts can't be used. With "free" cruises.

It doesn't matter that much. But by upgrading I would get the points and a larger room. There are a lot of suites left so there is a very good chance of an upgrade.

Been that way for several years, no balcony discount on free cruise.

I took a few breaths and called back. Was able to upgrade for $625, no balcony discount but there was another discount that applied.

I talked to a supervisor at resolutions. He was one of the best people I've ever talked to at Royal. He explained things step by step, not just "do you want it or not".
