lucyd Posted June 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Does anyone know the "indoor" square feet on the forward explorer suites on deck 4 vs deck 5? Are there any obstructions to view on deck 4 or 5? Deck 3 - looks like the ship's bow may obstruct view? Thank you It also looks like there is a window over the bath tub on the forward explorer suites - but can not tell for sure. Thanks for your help.
Rare Azulann Posted June 4, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Ronb65 has a thread here on Viking forum that is wonderful thread that shows of every inch of a Viking ship. Here is the link to the Explorer Suites. https://viking-cruises-cabin-guide.blogspot.com/p/full-suites.html I was lucky enough to visit one on my cruise. A roll call member invited us to their suite after dininer one evening. It is fabulolus. We walked out on the balcony. It is very spacious. Later he got a call from the bridge to please turn the balcony light off. :o
mariavii Posted June 4, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Did you go through the CC photo galleries to answer the obstruction question? https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/viking-sky-992/explorer-suite-411853/ https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/viking-sea-993/explorer-suite-king-bed-410848/ https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/viking-sea-993/explorer-suite-double-bed-410826/ https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/viking-star-748/explorer-suite-205879/

I did an extensive search for the interior/exterior square footage for the explorer suites and couldn’t find anything, I hope Viking gives you an answer or provides floor plans, which would be helpful. My parents had 4001 on the Star. With regards to obstructions...it’s depends on how you define an obstruction. As you can tell from one of the posts above the balconies kind of give you the sense of being enclosed based mainly on their location. In the future if we are doing a cruise in warmer temperatures as opposed to winter in the Mediterranean, we would opt for an ES2 instead as the balcony would be more important to us. There was no window over the bath tub in their suite. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
lucyd Posted June 4, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Thank you everyone. The photos are very useful. However, photos of 3000/3001 posted on : https://viking-cruises-cabin-guide.blogspot.com/p/full-suites.html look like a window over the bathtub for forward explorer suites, when I see the room layout diagram it does not seem possible that forward explorer suites could have a bathroom window - Oh well, I certainly do not need a window over my bathtub. We were fortunate on our TA cruise a couple of months ago aboard the Viking Sea to receive an offer from Viking to upgrade to Suite 3000 which we accepted. Our initial Viking Ocean cruise was aboard the Viking Star and we stayed in Explorer Suite 3095 at the stern of the ship. The suites have the same amenities but are arranged differently to conform the the shape of the space allocated. It also had a similarly large window over the bath tub. By the way, Azulann was our guest who visited our suite along with a couple of others from our Roll Call/Meet & Mingle group.

Senior Gators, so glad you found this thread and posted your personal experience of the suite. :) Your invitation was a very nice end to a great evening with others on our roll call.:D ✨

There are a number of photos on CruiseCritic to support this, here are the ones I could easily find... Viking Star - 4001 https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/viking-star-748/explorer-suite-205879/explorer-suite--v10511597/ Viking Sky - 5000 https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/viking-sky-992/explorer-suite-411853/explorer-suite--v18415441/ Viking Sea - 5000 https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/viking-sea-993/explorer-suite-double-bed-410826/explorer-suite-double-bed--v18364310/ The following photo shows the forward ES3 suite 3001 on Viking Sky which clearly shows the window in that bathroom. I suspect based on a floor plan seen on another site that all of the aft suites both ES3 and ES2 may have the window based on the position of the bathroom. https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/viking-sea-993/explorer-suite-king-bed-410848/explorer-suite-king-bed--v18363541/ I wish that Viking had better documentation (layouts, square footage, photos, etc.) on each of these suites so that one can make a more informed choice between them. lucyd, I can confirm that there is indeed a window (with shade) over the bath tub in the forward facing Explorer Suites. lucyd Posted June 5, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted June 5, 2018 Thank you for your research. Really odd that the website below shows suite 3000/3001 with a window over the bathtub that is actually overlooking the bow of the ship. https://viking-cruises-cabin-guide.b...ll-suites.html
