Is getting a room on deck 1 porthole a bad idea? (Is it loud) I've always sailed on a deck that has rooms above and below, but going as cheap this time..

You can hear when the waves crash against the hull and feel a vibration if it’s rough weather. Also being that far forward you may feel a fair amount of movement.

Yes, my experience on Conquest class ships is that it can be loud, but the loudness comes from the ship's operations and the waves. Arriving and leaving port is very loud with the thrusters going. Waves hitting the bow can also be heard. To me these are just sounds of solo cruising. I'm rarely in my room when leaving port, and usually up when arriving. The waves hitting--I'm surprised at how quickly I get used to that. Ear plugs might help if you think you wouldn't get used to the noise.
