mkolbicka Posted June 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2018 We are booked on the Norwegian Sun for the 10 August sailing. We chose the $50 Specialty Dining perk. Can you use this to book a specialty restaurant before you cruise or do you have to wait to get onboard to use.
lisabdh1 Posted June 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2018 You can make reservations before you get onboard. That evening they would apply the $50 to your bill and charge the rest to your card I would think.
casofilia Posted June 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2018 Is the $50 Specialty Dining "perk" something new? Normally the Specialty Dining "perk" is for a specific number of meals with no cost/value stated. Booking before you board is very common.
CaptainTina Posted June 18, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2018 We booked a couple dinners prior to getting on the ship. It made it easier on a couple of nights to have to think about where we were eating. If you have a larger group, it is also better to book ahead. A few people on here have reported different promo meals lately. I assume they are deals from Travel Agents.

I don't know the specifics of the perk you have, but there is very little direct link between the booking of a meal and how it is paid for, so there should be absolutely nothing to stop you from booking a meal online and then applying the promo to it when you go for the meal. The only issue you will have is that the system will try to charge you for the meal when you book. That is no problem if you are booking an a la carte restaurant (like Carneys, Le Bistro or La Cucina), but if you try to book something like Moderno or Teppenyaki then it will probably charge you, and the you would have to try to get that adjusted onboard (probably by refunding as OBC). If you also have the SDP then you can avoid this charge by booking those restaurants first, but I'm assuming from your question that you don't have that package. It's one of the new perks on the shorter Cuba cruises, $50 excursion credit, $50 food credit, open bar.
mkolbicka Posted June 19, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Thank you all. Yes we wanted to go to Teppenyaki so that probably won't work. The $50 Dining Credit is a perk for a short cruise.
