Littlegoo75 Posted January 4, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2006 Please, Somebody give me some ideas of what to do in Freeport! Everyone makes it sound like it's such a boring port. Am I best to just sign up for a Carnival excursion?
Littlegoo75 Posted January 5, 2006 Author #2 Share Posted January 5, 2006 Wow...Is there really nothing to do there? That stinks.
steff613 Posted January 5, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2006 This is the impression i get. I have decided this will be my daughters "shopping day", we plan to take a cab to the Lucaya marketplace, the beach is across the street from what I can figure. I will let my daughter shop until her money is gone and then either hit the beach for a while or head back to the ship and hope for a deal at the spa. I think the rest of the family is going to try the carnival kayak excursion.
newbie01 Posted January 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2006 I just booked a Dolphin Swim at Freeport. I'm very excited about it and can't wait. I'll be there 1/16/06 w/Carnival Liberty. You can book it at http://bestonbahamas.com/dolphin_tours.html or call them. The number is on the website..... When I called them for the reservation, I asked them if there was anything my husband could do while waiting for me and he said they are in Port Lucaya and that's pretty much where everything is at. It's about a 20 min taxi ride from the pier. Not sure how much taxi's would be for that... Does anyone know how much a taxi is from the pier to Port Lucaya? :) Amy
steff613 Posted January 6, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2006 I just did a search on the taxi question it looks to be $5 per person from the pier to the Lucaya area.

fkfad Posted January 10, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 10, 2006 We were in Freeport in October and are returning again in February. It was a great place to visit! The beaches were very clean...the water was very clear! We stayed on Fortuna Beach...which was beautiful. We snorkeled off of the beach and had an encounter with a nurse shark...it was awesome! In fact, we had some of the best snorkeling we have ever enjoyed...and we have snorkeled at every beach (OK...so I'm exaggerating) between Aruba and Maui!! We watched the dolphins play in the surf, we visited the Isle of Capri casino in Port Lucaya. We didn't have much time for shopping....but the Lucaya Marketplace looked pretty typical of all of the other islands we have ever visited. They are filming Pirates of Caribbean II and III on Grand Bahama Island. We ran across the Black Pearl pirate ship numerous times as it was sailing around the island. I guess you can tell by this post that my husband and I are quite fond of Freeport! We have traveled to many, many islands in the Caribbean, but have decided that Grand Bahama Island is perfect for us (very relaxing and a short flight from Atlanta)! You will have a great time! Do you know if Fortuna Beach is public, or was this a private hotel beach? We were planning an excursion here, since other reports of snorkeling have been pretty dismal. fkfad Posted January 11, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 11, 2006 I am not sure if this is a public or private beach. We stayed at the Viva Wyndham which is on this beach. When doing research on Freeport, it sounded like this was a public beach... Sorry I can't help you...
