Best way to get to Meridia

We will be in Progresso in October. We aren't interested in doing a Mayan ruins tour as we have already done that. I had read that Meridia was nice to walk around and their were street markets there as well. There will be a total of 10 people so I wasn't sure if a bus would be the best way for us to get there or taxi's? Any one have any experience in Meridia?
