Punta Cana

It's time for our group to start planning excursions for our midwinter thaw! This year, the Equinox is taking us to Punta Cana. I've searched the port boards and crickets. Does anybody have any experience or any suggestions on what to do in Punta Cana? We aren't really interested in an all inclusive or a dolphin experience. Would rather just find a public beach that has a few amenities, maybe chairs and umbrellas, and a little food and drink. Any suggestions or advice?:)

I have been to Puna Cana twice by cruise ship and once as a destination vacation. It is a very poor area so I would avoid a public beach, as I do not like being bombarded by local vendors. While docked in La Romana we visited the Dreams Resort and had a great time with everything included, beach barbecue, drinks and music. Nice beach, infinity pool and swim-up bar. This was a couple years ago and I think it was $60.00 pp
