McFins Posted July 31, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2018 Hi there. Looking at the Gem end of October. Newport is one of the ports and from what I can tell it is a tender port. Can anyone with experience comment on the typical tender vessel n Newport? I'm not sure if it is specific to the cruise line or not. Reason I ask is that I've been only been to one tender port in my cruising experience and on the way out the tender was actually one of the lifeboats from the ship---on the way back it was a large ferry. Wasn't sure if that is typical. Many thanks if anyone has experience for tendering in Newport
SailBadtheSinner Posted July 31, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2018 The tendering I've seen at Newport has been the cruise ship's life boats. The floating tender docks are made for a life boat size. source: Google SBtS

Northern Aurora Posted July 31, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2018 We were on a B2B set of cruises earlier this summer, and both itineraries stopped at Newport. Both times the ship (the Celebrity Summit) used their double hulled ship tenders. Both cruises also stopped at Bar Harbor, and at that port both the ship tenders and large private tenders were also used.
